What are the fees now on EBay to list something that I am unable to use(I'm not sure if I can put in what I need to list on this site). I'm thinking of listing the item between $850 -$1,000 . Please let me know. TIA

If you don't have an established ebay account (i.e. 100+ stars), with such a high ticket item, honest buyers may avoid you [I would.]

Can you try to sell locally on facebook/craigslist first? Account for the fees and hassle of ebay and price to sell.

If you do sell on ebay, get insurance, tracking, and do not ship to anyone without a PayPal Confirmed Address or you will be out of luck recovering your money if something goes wrong.

PayPal Confirmed Address ?? How do I do this. I usually buy on EBay, this is my first time to list something.

You need to research this yourself before starting selling on eBay. If you don't, you're bound to make done expensive mistakes. eBay has information easily found for new sellers. Go there and start reading!

As already advised, anyone who is experienced on eBay would not buy a high priced item from a new seller. It might be easier to sell locally.

May I ask what the item is? I can help more if I knew?

I was an eBay power seller for some time and still buy/sell frequently.

Tigger, I just started selling on Ebay with 40 stars (mostly from buying) and I sold a ring for $1200. Ebay charged me 10% of the rings cost AND I think they charged 10% on shipping. They do give a discount on shipping and it's always 39 cents for me on first class packages.

Paypal charged me $35 because I used their services.

I am a new seller on Ebay and so far Ive done very well. No complaints from buyers but not a lot of feedback either. After selling pretty good for a month, Ebay increased my selling limit to 220 items per month or 5k.

Are you on Facebook? I am member of a few "on-line yardsales" for my area. I have sold some of DD American Girl items. These groups are free and you can arrange to meet at a public place.

You might also want to try craigslist. The important part is to meet at a public (high traffic) location, even bring a friend or your DH along during the transaction.

Also, I specify cash only for my transactions because I don't want to mess with a bad check. If it was a high dollar item I may say I would take a post office or publix money order.

Most items are free to list, but you can add some "features" that may cost $2-$10. The "final value fee" (i.e. their commission) is nearing 10% for most categories. Paypal will take another 2.9%, plus 30 cents.

I always assume 15% in fees between EBay and Paypal. For an item that expensive definitely ship with insurance and Ebay requires signature confirmation on purchases over $200 (I think. might be $250). I don't like to mess with auctions unless it's a low ticket item and I don't want to pay a listing fee or it's a popular item that could generate a bidding war. Everything else I list Buy It Now for 30 days with the free re-listing option. It's essentially 3 months for 30 cents.

Signature confirmation is needed for items over $750 - this was changed a little while ago.

Well, that would still apply to the OP. And I'd still do signature confirm at a MUCH lower price point than that.
