Should I go in November?

What a silly question, of course I should go to DLR. :)

But maybe you guys can think of things I'm ignoring.

A friend of mine is having her 40th b'day this year, and decided that the Madonna tour was *because* of her b'day (teehee) so she needed to go. She has extended the invite to several of us, and so I've been wrangled into a trip to San Diego in November. They have a whole plan involving 2 condos in downtown SD, a few days of both structured and unstructured fun times, and then the concert on the 4th.

Everyone is taking off EARLY that next morning, but I really don't like very early flights. I want my pilots awake, ya know? :upsidedow (OK that's mainly an excuse)

I bought my ticket down to San Diego already. Trying out Virgin America and am very excited! I delayed buying the ticket back b/c I guess somewhere in the back of my mind I was planning something like this. :lmao:

I couldn't help but think, and then check, about Amtrak's Surfliner. Lo and behold, it leaves from the SAN station early early, but after my friends have all left for the airport, and would get to Anaheim almost 2 hours before opening! Given time for slow-downs on the track and getting from the station, doesn't that just sound perfect? I even have a few Amtrak Guest Rewards points, a little bit over what the Surfliner needs, so I wouldn't need to pay for the ticket with $$.

And it's not a MM day so everyone's on a level playing ground, so to speak.

Then I could hop on a flight leaving around 7pm, giving me a nice, solid day of fun. Solo. Again. :rolleyes1

Am I not thinking of something important? Is Nov 5 important in some way? Is the Surfliner routinely 3 hours late? Have I lost my mind entirely?

I mean...I'm going to be down there anyway, right?:flower3:

If you are going to spend the time and money to get to Anaheim you should spend a couple more dollars for a night or 2 at Hojos and get yourself atleast 2 days in the parks! :thumbsup2

Alas, hubby will have already taken 2 days off to hang out with Boy-o at home, and won't be able to take another. So I have to go back that night, sigh. And since it will be by far the longest I have been away from either of them since I married DH and had DS, I will be very likely counting the minutes anyway! :goodvibes

I think it sounds like a great idea. I'm not familiar w/ the train, so I'm not sure if they typically run late or on time though. I am supposed to go on a trip w/ three of my old classmates from high school in October. I was kind of talked into it recently too. If it was in CA, I would most likely try to convince them to take a side trip to DL.

Oh, you should SO do this. How fun! How could you be that close and NOT go?

Good for you! :goodvibes

It's good that no one is replying that Nov 5th is the day that Every Single Person goes to DLR. :) I like that, LOL.

But now heatherleigh's reply has made me wonder if this group of women would like to venture north for a long day. :rolleyes1 One of the friends knows that I'm a Disneyland nut, but she hasn't gone much b/c her second son was really hard on them while traveling until just recently (so they do a lot of *leave kids with grandparents while we go on Windjammer cruises* type trips). But even with her I think I'd be embarrassed, for fear of being made fun of, to suggest it.

But can't you imagine that it would be fun? 7 or so women rent a big car or get on the train, and go to DLR for the day? I could do my same guided random choices touring plan that I do for my brother and his wife, and it could be fun.

Though they think paying a couple hundred to get sailing lessons from hot guys is fun, so I'm just not sure going to what they might think of as a kiddie place, while they are escaping their kiddies (if the $$$ shows up I'd get DS and DH down there to stay with my brother in CV and DLR, definitely! so this is not about escape for me, but about spending time with people I never see anymore), is going to count as fun for them.

And I'm already going to be teased b/c I WILL be wearing earplugs at the concert. I've lost enough hearing thanks to my concert-going 20s, I don't want to lose more!

Bumbershoot!! I can't believe you of all people even had to ask! Of course you should go, and have fun too!!

So have you already started to plan your day, Miss Comando?

:rotfl:

Now that I've experienced a trip while injured, and saw that lots could be done even without being crazy about it, I might not plan TOO MUCH if I go. :upsidedow

The main expense of this side-trip would be a new AP, if I don't renew it in September. Especially since hubby already said that he supports me getting a Premium this time. But that would just make it easier, next time he and DS get to go, b/c it would only be paying for their two APs, not 3 at once.

I presented this idea to him by IM and all he said was "Those are all interesting ideas." Not nearly as positive as when he thought of getting me a Premium! :goodvibes

I say definately go for it. What is the 5th? Like a Wednesday or something?? That would be so much fun. Oh wait, it is definately a Wednesday, as we are leaving on Monday the 3rd.

Yes, we're going on an old ladies trip to LV. I really wish it was DL instead. I doubt the girls would go for that idea though.

One of my old friends made fun of me a couple yrs ago when we drove to CA. I suggested we stop at DL (we were on a road trip, w/ lots of time and no plans.) He said that it was an adult trip, and we were not going to any kids places. We drove right past it.

Molly! Do it! Do it!!

Oh the peer pressure!! :stir:

From riding the train several times I've noticed that the train pretty much takes the same amount of time it would if you were to drive.. :car:

DBF and I have taken the train several times to LA and the train ride is about an hour (maybe a little more?), which would normally take us to drive (without the killer traffic)..

I think one solo day at DLR would be nice for you! And get your more excited to go back and take your boys! Woot! ;)

Just curious because I don't fly down there, how would you get from DL to the airport? And how much time would you have to allow for that?

It would just kill me to be that close and not go! I'm trying to think of more excused to get down there again this year besides Christmas and our anniversary.

I say go for it!! It sounds like a fun - if somewhat loooooong - day :thumbsup2 Not sure how far in advance you have to be at the airport (I know for us it's two hours - international) and then to LAX is 1.5-2 hours, so you won't have a full day at the park, but being a Wednesday and if you're there at opening, it could still be tons o' fun :yay:

I think I will go out on a limb and suggest that you GO!!!! It sounds like the details work out well for you - the train, the PAP, etc. Make that trip and have a blast!

another "go" vote here! My only regret is that I will be at WDW on the 5th! Otherwise I would pick you up at the train station and drive you to DLR myself!

BTW, the trains usually run pretty much on time--the only time (very very rare) there is an issue is an accident on the tracks or some such thing like an earthquake.

Of course, you should go!
Only you, however, knows whether you would have fun with the others!
My best friend and I are going to Disneyland in September to celebrate our birthdays!
Almost everyone we know doesn't understand why we are going to Disneyland and not Las Vegas or on a cruise!
We never considered anywhere else!
We have concluded that we are far too old to care what everybody thinks! LOL!

I would take Super Shuttle to the airport, most likely. I've liked them in the past. And I'd take a cab from the train station to Disneyland.

Toochie, you'll be in FL? Ugh. I mean, good for you, but what timing!

Good to know about the trains. I only know about the Coast Starlight and the one that goes from Seattle to BC, and both of them tend towards lateness (The Starlight especially).

I kept the husband-man up too late talking about all of this (poor guy), but he is actually on the side of me going. He was a bit confused at first (wasn't following the when aspect of it) but once he heard what I was saying, he liked the idea.

I am completely sure I will find a tent in our living room when I get home, LOL. The only way DS went to sleep when I took my one-night solo trip was hubby agreeing to let him sleep in the living room.
