Even though you have decided, I thought I'd add my two cents. We just got off the Magic, Sat. Aug. 21- 28, 2004. This was our third DCL cruise, second verandah. Also, it was the second time we were next door to a cigar smoker! Unbelieveable. The smell came in through the closed door. The ship was full and we had just passed a few passengers at Guest Services with room problems that they wanted to be moved from. I kept thinking that two out of the four of us were going to have sick tummies a lot.
DCL did give us an air purifier for the week and housekeeping came and sprayed some okay scents. Not too strong, just right. So we didn't spend as much time on our verandah as I would have liked. I don't think it is worth the money since we really couldn't use ours that much.
Our other short lived problem was while in port on Sat., they wash the ship. Our verandah didn't drain. We had an inch of standing water. We didn't go outside except for a few inches because we didn't want to soak the rugs. It took 24 hours until maintenance could come and suck up the water.
On our other trip we just had a port hole. I do like being able to see outside. Either way, we spent little time awake in our room. Our children are 9 and 11.
I think the next trip I will go back to a port hole.
Good luck.
