Should I get a Gypsy?

I have a Cricut Expression and LOVE it. I've been trying to decide if I should get a gypsy ever since they were announced, and could never quite decide if it was for me. I just found out about the promo ProvoCraft is offering with the Gypsy for the free download of 6 cartridges if you buy/register one by Oct 31 (which unfortunately is today - why do I always find out about these things at the last minute :confused3). So, now of course I'm trying to decide if I should go out and get one today.

A couple of questions for those of you with a gypsy:
1. Do you find the gypsy useful? Do you always use it for cutting or just when doing "complicated" cuts (like welding or merging shapes).
2. Just how much memory does it have? One of my biggest questions is what happens if I run out of memory? I have a lot of cartridges and I'm sure I'll be adding lots more.... just how many can it hold. Plus you can save "designs" to it too right? There must be some kind of limit?
3. Can I still cut directly from my Cricut with the cartridge (for instance if I just need a simple cut and if I don't feel like using the Gypsy). I'm guessing I can, but want to know for sure.
4. Is this promo worth it? Assuming I decide I want one... is it worth it to try to get it today just for the promo?
5. Is there anything else I need to know about the Gypsy before I buy it.

Sorry so long. Thanks in advance!!

I absolutely love my G! It has taken my scrapping to a whole new level. It saves me a lot of time, because I can set my cuts up whenever I have time and then when I am ready to scrap I get right to it.

As far as memory goes, I do not have a ton of carts, but I have plenty of space. I have about 50 saved files and still have space.

I always use mine, even for simple things, but that is just me. You can still cut with just the cart if you want to. You just need to unplug the G.

If you do not have the carts they are offering the promo is a good deal, especially if someone has it on sale. (I have not looked at the ads this morning.)

Good Luck in what you decide! :goodvibes

I love my Gypsy too! I mainly use it to weld things together, not really to design pages, but I'm working on that. If I just need a simple cut from a cartridge, then I stick the cartridge in and cut from that rather than using the gypsy. The portability of the Gypsy is really a great feature because I can take my G with me and put things together anytime and then cut them out whenever I'm ready.

I think this promotion is an awesome deal, especially if you don't have those 6 carts.

Good luck!

i think the gypsy would be a great addition. i didn't think i would want it until some friends told me how much they like it. i have the computer program and i like to weld stuff, but, i miss my computer when i am at a crop.

with the gypsy you can weld, too. it is small so you can have it with you. but, i also heard that you can hide stuff you don't want to cut. i don't think i can do that with the program i have. so, i am thinking about getting one sometime in the future.

good luck on your decision. :)

I love my gypsy, didn't hurt that I got it for a fantastic price. My favorite feature is the search, second favorite thing is that I don't have to carry all my carts to crops.

Thanks for the advice! I decided to go for it! I found out that Michael's has the Gypsy on sale this week for $130, so I figured that price along with the free carts promo seemed like a good deal to me. And it sounds like those of you who have one really like it. I only got a chance to play with it a little bit last night, but hoping to get a chance to play with it more (and start learning how to use it!) tonight. Thanks again!

I missed the Michael's deal, but I just ordered a Gypsy for myself for $125 shipped from Custom Crops. I missed the 6th free cart, but I'm getting 5, so I guess I"ll have to be satisfied woth that deal! I can't wait to play with my new gadget!!!
