We will be visiting the world the end of the month staying at POP. I requested that our room not be on the first floor. Should I call and confirm or will they not know anything until our arrival day?

I'm sure they have it written down but they can't hold certain rooms you request. They will not know until that morning whether they can give you what you want..... good luck

You can certainly call and check that your request is listed on your reservation. Of course, the room assigner will not see the request until just prior to your arrival. Your room will not be assigned until you check in. Whether or not you get your request will depend on what rooms are available at the time you check in. Rooms are not held based on requests.

So what is the point of requesting a room prior to check-in then? It seems like you would do just as well asking for what you want nicely :goodvibes when you check in?

I've been worried about my request for a room as well, I guess I really shouldn't, it sounds like it is just going to be the luck of the draw that day...

Your request will be available to the room assigner a couple of days prior to your arrival. They do look at the requests. If it is not a busy time of year, they really do try to honor requests. If it is a busy time of year, you are much less likely to get your request, especially if a lot of other folks are also making requests.

Personally, I never made a request. If I was assigned to a room that I found unacceptable, I went back and asked for another room. I never had a problem this way.

With so many people making requests, it has made the job of assigning rooms much harder. For that reason, the chances of getting your requests become slimer. As you stated above, there is certainly nothing wrong with just asking nicely when you arrive. In fact, a face to face pleasant request might get you more than just having a note put on your reservation.

What we did was send a fax 4 days prior to arrival to the room assigner (I read that somewhere, that that is the time when the room assigner is looking at where to put guests).
Anyway not sure if it always works, but it did in our case - our request was granted :)

I'd call and make sure the request is there. But then again, I'm the type that checks everything 50 billion times before a trip.

Rooms are assigned before you get there. So in your case, the assignor will look and see that you don't want a first floor room. That's an easy request unless by some really strange alignment of the stars, there are hundreds of requests from people needing to be on the first floor because of medical reasons.

Last month, I had requested a king bed room in Pop Century. When I checked in, the room had already been assigned to me.

It doesn't hurt to give reservations to ring to make sure that your requests are in the computer.

Resort reservations are downloaded into that particular resort's computers about a week prior to your arrival, and yes, room assignors do take requests into consideration. Rooms are not always pre-assigned, but if at all possible, they will attempt to assign you to a room that meets your requests ahead of time. Keep in mind that most types of requests are not guaranteed.

By the way... faxing requests may have extremely limited utility. The only official method to make your requests known ahead of time is to add them to your reservation via phone call to central reservations/your travel agent. I would also suggest that you politely mention any requests upon check-in.
