Should I call the vet?

We just got home from a 2 week vacation and I noticed yesterday that my year old Maine Coon has a runny nose. I cleaned it with some warm water. Today, I had children everywhere who were loud and running through the house and as usual ALL the cats hid from them. So now all of the kids are gone and I went to find my baby. His nose is a bit dryer, still a little cruddy but not openly running. What bothers me though is when I went to pick him up he cried out. He is VERY VERY VOCAL anyway but I think it hurts his stomach when I pick him up or hurts him.

My question, should I call the vet after hours or do you think its okay to wait until tomorrow morning??

That's a tough one for me... the runny nose wouldn't bother me, but the pain in the stomach would. I might call the after hours vet to see what they say. THey might have you wait until tomorrow anyway. I hope he feels better soon.

I have called in the past for animals.......most esp when I was not sure what to do. I would call.

Call the vet and see what they say - speaking as the son of a vet, they'll give you advice, how you can comfort your pet, and whether it's neccessary to call them out (which will usually cost a fair bit of cash on top of any treatment- obviously irrelevent if your pet is in pain), or just to bring your cat in first thing in the morning. You should always have the option of asking the vet to see your animal out of hours, if it's what you want (well, in the UK this is the case, not sure about the US)

They will, however, almost certainly NOT speculate over the phone what is wrong with your animal, so don't be shocked if they just tell you either to wait till the morning or to bring it in to the surgery at the time without going into detail what may be causing the problem.

Hope your cat is alright, and try not to stress out over it. :)

I would call. But of course my DH says my vet was the happiest man in town when we had children so I wouldn't obsess over our cats as much. I called him after hours several times when I thought something might be wrong with them, and usually there was something amiss.

awww poor kitty. I'd call about the crying out part I think. The runny nose is...well, cats get them sometimes don't they?

Oh and welcome home!
