should I buy more points?

We purchased 150 points (150 came with it) and we are planning on going next May. We are going to be approx. 30 points short to stay at BWV (boardwalk view) so we are going to borrow into next years points. My question though is now I believe we will always be short unless we stay at OKW or purposely pick a low season. Should I buy more points or can I continually borrow into the next year and it will work out, or should I just rent points when I am short because I can avoid closing costs. (We need a 2 bedroom because we have 3 kids). Thanks for your help.

Well, using the current method at some point you are not going to have enough points for a trip as now performed.

For example: Year one 150 points, borrow 30 from year two.

Year two now has 120 points. You need 180 so you borrow 60 from year three

Year three now has 90 points so you borrow 90 from year four.

Year four now has 60 points so your borrow 120 from year five

Year five now has 30 points so you borrow 150 from year six

Year six now has 0 points and all you can borrow from year 7 is 150 so you are short 30 points. At this point you are going to have to rent points from here forward or skip a year.

Well, picking OKW or getting BWV standard view will give you some slack in point usage.

You picked the 150 point contract for a reason, and maybe it's no longer valid. There probably are ways that you can make the 150 points work. Do you want more points??? Silly question!! :rotfl:

Pixie dust for you as you decide!!

If you can afford more - it may be a viable alternative to borrowing - otherwise, you could take a year off the Boardwalk view or try out OKW or SSR (a few more points) every few years to need less points every once in a while.

My advice is to borrow. You really don't know if you will continue to go every year at the same time for the same number of days. Stuff happens. Needs change. By the time you have to skip a year, your circumstances may change.

FWIW, if you get more points, you will end up going more often. That's not a bad thing, but if you bought DVC to "save" money, you are starting down the slippery slope of spending MORE on your WDW vacations.

You don't NEED more points - maybe you just WANT them. :teeth:

Maybe you could consider cash for a night or two here and there if you don't want to borrow. (IMHO, there's nothing wrong with borrowing, though).

Best wishes -

It all depends on where you want to stay. Honestly, I get 3 vacations out of 150 points. Yes, I go during "low" season and yes I stay in studios now and then. But, if you plan and budget well, 150 points can be more than enough. If you need to borrow this one time, then maybe the next time, or some time in the future, you can stay in a studio or stay at SSR or modify your normal reservations somehow to make it work. I'm a fan of borrowing only if you really need to. There are other ways to get around it without affecting your future plans.

if you need a 2 bedroom 150 points a year will be hard, so you should probaly look into more, so you can stay longer. if you are positive that you will go every year and stay in a 2 bedroom you definetly need more.

sorry, I guess I should clarify and mention that our plans are only to go every other year (we own Marriott Vacation club for the opposite years.) So really we have 300 points to spend every other year.So far this year I am borrowing 30 points.

You should be good for a while then when it gets to the year out of reach just buy and transfer the point in you need for that year

JUNE 06 316 for 2bdrm you have(150) 05 banked (150) 06 uy and (16) 07 borrowed
JUNE 08 316 you have (134) 07 banked (150)08 uy ( 32) 09 borrowed
JUNE 10 316 you have (118) 09 banked (150)10 uy (48) 11 bor.

Right now with the 15% deal is good. :Pinkbounc

Just to make sure I understand you correctly, you are saying that all of that borrowing still does not equal renting? even up until 2010?

yes that is correct these are your points from those years someone else confirm please but thats how i understand it and I was going off 316 not 330 but that means I think a 10 year cycle before you have skip due to no points or rent 150 to start over keeping the everyother year

have you thought about 1 less night even maybe off property with early check-in to still enjoy everything.

I did think of staying off property one night before but with a 3,5 and 7 year old I thought it might not be worth the hassle. But I could cut it a day short maybe in my 2008 visit. Good thought, thanks!
