I currently am looking at buying into the DVC and wanted to tell you my situation and see what your thoughts were: I live in Florida only 2 hours away from the parks, I go down there and stay any where from 6 to 12 nights a year. When I go I always stay on property. I've payed as low as $49 at the budget hotels, $79 at the moderate hotels and $135 at the Luxury resorts. I have annual passes so I don't buy tickets when I go down. I usually don't plan vacations more than a month in advance and I've never had problems getting rooms.

My question is, it seems this DVC is more geered to out of state residents who plan their vacations 12 months out or more. I tend to stay only 1 or 2 nights a visit and typically leave on a Friday and stay Friday night and Saturday night. Do you think this deal (DVC) is right for me???

Only you can really decide. If you are really into staying at all the different resorts, maybe DVC isn't for you. I have seen some posts where people do just go for the weekend.

And while specific villas will book up at the 11 month window, unless you decide to go at a really busy DVC time of year, you may be able to get into a villa on short notice. But then again you may not or you may not get your choice of villa - ie there may be no studios left and you might only be able to get a 2 BR.

I guess if you only plan a couple weeks out, there may be times you can't get into what you want and you may end up having to use more points than you think.

Like I said, only you can decide if this is for you. Hopefully more people will reply to this thread and give yo more insight.

Only you can decide, but as I tell everyone.....
Ummm..yes.

DVC is best used if you schedule your time in advance. You might become frustrated by not getting rooms when you want to go.

You also state you have stayed at the Value hotels. I assume you are happy with them once in a while due to the price or whatever.

Due to your ability to find deals and go on a moments notice, IMHO I don't think DVC would be a great fit (at this point in time).

You say you usually stay Fri and Sat nights. Those are very costly point nights. Many DVC'rs avoid those nights. In your situation I do not believe DVC is right for you.

I agree with the above two posters... Now isnt the time, You dont mention if you have kids. If you do I would say DVC is the way to go. Nothing like having a one or two bedroom villa onsite.

But booking at short notice could be a problem at certian times of the year.

Good luck with your decision!

I think because you only want Fri & Sat nights and as long as you aren't picky about which DVC resort you are at or if you have to switch resorts each night you probably will be able to get a room because many DVC members try to avoid Fri & Sat nights because of the high pts. So you will probably be able to get a room but it will be at a very high pt cost, no choice in which resort and might only get 1 nt in each resort. Personally I do not think you would be getting the true value a DVC membership can give you.
