Should I bring my "good" camera?

I'm really torn on which camera(s) to bring on our upcoming trip. I have a Canon EOS 60d with a nice lens. I also have an Olympus TG2. I have other cameras, too, but those are the 2 I'm considering bringing. Our last trip to WDW I brought a Canon point and shoot. I got a lot of great pictures! But, the more pictures I see, the more I want to bring my "good" camera. Is it practical, though?!

I would bring both. I would start with the DSLR and if you find it to be too bothersome you can always just go with the point and shoot. We take both but only fool with the DSLR a few days days per trip.

Thanks! That's a great idea. I'm a bit worried about traveling with the DSLR, though. I guess I should take it as a carry-on?

Definitely!!! Never pack a camera or any valuables with luggage. Get a good bag that protects your camera. My favorite is the Lowepro slingshot I think it's called that you can get at bhphotovideo.com. It has a place for your DSLR, batteries, cards, and then a side for personal items. So it's great for a purse! It's perfect and super comfortable when worn cross body. We've taken it on two trips to Disney. When not using your camera, lock it in the safe in the hotel room.

I traveled with my Nikon D90 a few years back in a Kata backpack/carry on. Worked well though only really used the camera at Animal Kingdom and AKL. Otherwise used the P&S during the trip.

Thanks! I really like that! I have a shoulder camera bag, but it's a pain ;)

U shoot with a 60D and a nice lens so I assume you like to shoot. Disney is the mecca for photo ops.

I travel with 4 L grade lens and my 7D all the time. I use a kata packpack which also houses my macbook pro for uploading pics each day, which is my carryon bag. I them switch down to a domke sling for each day in the park. So I would say I'm traveling with over 10 grand in equipment each trip.

I have all my stuff insured, so if something happens I'm covered. Best money I ever spent along with my black rapid strap cause accidents do happen. I actually dropped my d7 with my 24-70 2.8 II before I had my black rapid strap.

That's why you insure. That's just me though. That was my first accident in over 12 years and over 20 trips. I was rushed out of security at the park and I missed my shoulder with the bag somehow and the bag fell.

I had my body and lens fixed within weeks and all the money needed was paid for. over 1600. Did it change how I travel. Yes. I padded my day bag. I don't rush out f security anymore or I move right to the side to get together and I now use the black rapid strap for just in case.

YIKES!!

My dd is in gymnastics and ds in football, thus the decent camera :) But yes, I love to shoot when given a chance!

Who do you insure, through? I need to do that!

This will be my first trip to WDW since purchasing the Canon T5i. I did not purchase it to leave home! Take it!!! :thumbsup2 (and take it as carry-on!)

TC :cool1:

I have all my stuff with allstate, but they wouldn't give me a residential policy. said they only had a commercial one for photo stuff.

My neighbor is a Erie owner. I went through him. I pay 1 dollar per 100 insured. Cheap cheap cheap for being safe in my opinion.

When I had my accident. It was beyond easy to get everything taken care of. I sent pics that night to my neighbor so he knew what was going on. When I got homeI had everything to canon the next day and they got back with the estimate a few days later. I sent that to Erie and literly had a check in like 2 weeks for the full amount. No question or concerns from them. Easiest process I ever went through.

Two pieces of advice. One year I went with a shoulder bag and my shoulders ached at the end of the day. Last year I switched to a backpack and was pain-free.

Second, and I guess this is just general advice, but I put a glass filter on the front of my 24-70 Canon lens. I got bumped while swapping out lenses before the Hollywood Studios parade on the first day of my vacation and got a huge crack. My heart sank until I saw it was just the glass filter that split and not the lens itself.

Ok, so now that you have talked me into bringing my camera, I need a better bag. I looked at the backpacks mentioned here, and the sling. I am thinking I like the sling better for being in the parks. I have a nice, padded bag, but I hate carrying in on my shoulder for long periods.

What else do you suggest?

+1 I had skylights for all my glass from Hoya, but lately have not been using them. I highly recommend them for places like Disney, but last 2 trips haven't used them. It's not the smartest move but I have been in paranoid mode and so careful since my little accident.

Yes definitely. I actually was able to find a rolling carryon that fits under my seat so I don't have to worry about anything happening to my cameras. As another poster mentioned, I would bring both your DSLR and your point and shoot. This is what I do and I love it. Gives me the option if the weather might be iffy, etc to just take the point and shoot.

That's the type I have.

It isn't great in the sense I have to physically remove the backpack from my back in order to unzip it to switch lenses, but I lug around like $3k in bodies and lenses so I'd rather it be well-protected.

On most rides I just slip it off and tuck between my legs or feet. On fast rides I stick one of my feet through the straps.

I use lockers on rides like those at Universal where you can't bring bags.

I always carry my DSLR at WDW. I leave my big camera bags (+extra lenses) in the hotel room and only carry the body and lens I chose for the day in the smallest camera bag I found (LowerPro). This summer I also plan on bringing my point and shoot (Olympus Tough) for my 5 yo to use. I cannot wait to see MK through her photos.

i take my good camera and a P&S. i rotate which days i carry the good camera (based on what we're doing each day). i usually carry the P&S every day. but my back/shoulders do get sore from the larger camera. so, i leave it behind on days where i won't need it as much.
