Should I bring my dog?

I wanted to get dog owner's opinions on bringing a dog to one of the resort hotels.

-Have you done it?
-Would you do it again?
-How long do you leave the dog alone in the room?

We have a great dog boarding place we use. However, the dog is left alone all noght. I can't decide what is better.

Please let's keep this to the pros and cons of bringing a dog. Not the pros and cons of other's dogs being allowed at the hotel.

Well, I've never done it and probably wouldn't. And I hate boarding my dogs and miss them a lot when I'm traveling. I just don't want to have to worry about them barking or whining all day or making a mess because they are stressed. (Actually, does a dog have to be crated so houskeeping can come in?)

I'd like to know too! We're considering renting a beach house where we can take our dog, and then going to US and staying in one of their resorts a few nights--because they allow dogs.

The site says you need to coordinate with houskeeping. I assume that measn they would nt need to be crated? But then, what happens if house keeping comes in and the dog gets out?

housekeeping will not come into the room if the guest is not in the room and the dog is not crated.

you can make arrangements with housekeeping for a time you want them in your room.

some people use the day kennel when they are in the park so the dog is not left alone all day in the room.

See that's what I would worry about too. It doesn't sound very relaxing to me to be in the park wondering how my dog is doing alone in a crate in the room. Or if not crated, getting out of the room when the housekeeper has the door open to access the cart...one my dogs would bolt immediately and the other would knock her down trying to say hello

if you read the pdf i linked, it will give you better information about the care of the pets when you are not in the room.
you are required to place the sign of animal in your room therefore, housekeeping will not enter without prior arrangements with the guest.

Pets should be supervised at all times while in the hotel or on the property. You have
been provided with a list of local pet sitting services which can be arranged for you
through the hotel’s concierge. Since these services are not provided by Loews Hotels
we can not be held responsible for any pet service engaged by you.

From the pdf:
A $10 per hour “time out” fee is assessed by Loews Hotels if a pet is left unattended and needs to be removed from a guestroom.

So does that mean you cannot leave a pet unattended? Or that they reserve the right to remove it if deemed nessecary?

We live on the Gulf Coast and have evacuated to the Loews Hotels with our 80 lb. Lab. Retriever twice when strong hurricanes threatened. In both cases boarding at home was not something to be considered. We brought along a kennel crate, lots of food and had no problems finding a good place to walk him at the RPR or with housekeeping cleaning the room while we were not present. In our case Loews was a great solution to an evacuation problem and our dog was warmly received and there were no issues. While on our evacuation/vacations, we did come back to the room many more times during the day than we normally would have during a "regular" visit to the parks so that we could check on our dog and on property back home.

That being said, we'll be visiting Orlando again next month staying at the HRH but will not be bringing along our dog. We have a great kennel at home, he is well cared for and travelling with an 80 lb. pup is not as much fun as maybe travelling with a smaller dog.

We are a family of 6 who have visited Universal every other summer since 1998. We drive from Illinois and stay at the HRH. Because there are 6 of us, we get 2 connected rooms. We have always brought our 4 dogs with us. They range in size from 55 to 95 pounds. We were just there in July 2009 for 4 days. In the past we left all 4 dogs in one room with a "Do not Disturb the Doggie in the Room" tag on the door while we went to the parks. Housekeeping would just clean the other room. Then we switched rooms the next day. It always worked fine with no problems. We never put them in a cage of any kind. This past July I decided to walk the dogs over to the Universal kennel which is located in the parking garage while we went to the parks. There was no particular reason not to leave them in the room other than maybe we were just lucky that they didn't get into trouble during past visits. Putting them in the kennel worked fine as well. Just for the record, there don't seem to be any particular pet-friendly rooms. We have been on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th floors and in every wing there is with the dogs. Employees are always very nice to the dogs. Other guests are constantly saying, "I didn't know you could bring dogs to the HRH!"
