Taking the new wife and family on their first Disney Fantasy cruise on Nov 28th. Checked the weather for Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Castaway Cay and it's just an ugly rain cloud for two straight weeks at every port. Should I be worried? Does this affect pirate night? Will we be rained out on Castaway Cay? Really concerned what this means for the trip. Anyone help us out? Is it usually just light rain?

Wondering if anyone has perspective on what it means when it's calling for rain on all the ports?

My triathlon coach always says (about race day weather, but this applies to vacation weather as well), "You can't control the weather. You can only control your attitude about the weather."

For our recent cruise, we had rain clouds for both Grand Cayman and Castaway Cay. Grand Cayman had some dark clouds in the distance, but we never got more than a couple of sprinkles. It made for some amazing dramatic photos from the tender boat of the ship, though! On CC we had nothing but glorious sun with a few clouds here and there. You never know. It seems that in tropical climes, little showers can pop up here and there and be gone just as quickly.

In any regard, November 28 is still quite a ways away. I imagine it's going to change a lot between now and then. When I was checking on the weather ahead of time for my cruise a couple weeks ago, it would literally change during the course of the day. One minute, it would think that rain was coming the following week, then later, no rain. It's not an exact science.

Just off the Magic and we had several short periods of rain on our cruise and several windy days. It rained right before the pirate night show but the cast just worked really quickly to clean off the stage and adjusted the show a little ( not saying how so as not to ruin anything). Still did the fireworks though and the pirates buffet and we had a lot of fun. Castaway Cay had some wind and a short burst of rain but we were still able to enjoy the beautiful beach and island. Some of the excursions on Castaway Cay were cancelled. including our Jet Ski excursion, but as I stated, we still had a wonderful time. I felt like the crew went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. Strangely, this was some of the worst weather that I have experienced on any of my Disney cruises and yet I had one of the best times I've ever had. I think attitude going in makes all the difference in how things turn out. Sure, there might be some little disappointments but you will still have a magical time if you just "let it go" (I couldn't resist!)

Rain Happens. It's the Caribbean. Is it optimal... of course not. can you still have a great time.. sure.

it rained for the first 3/4 days of our recent cruise. I have to say, the best day we have ever had on a cruise was in Cozumel on a day where it rained buckets. buckets! the streets were flooded, the cars were driving with water up to their doors. the sidewalks weren't to bad as they are much higher. it gave us a new perspective on cozumel, we have been there so many times it had gotten boring. they handed out rain jackets, the disposable mickey mouse ones, at every port where it rained.
so, give it a chance. rain does not mean a terrible time. we did things on the ship that we would have never done if it was sunny and we were able to sit in the sun and read. there's lots to do in all the ports rain or shine. I hope the sun is out for your entire vacation but just in case......take your positive attitude with you. have a great cruise! :sunny:

Totally agree, It's the Caribbean. And besides it's the weather!! Worrying about won't do anything, except to add Unnecessary Stress.

We did the Western Fantasy cruise for Thanksgiving 2 years ago and the weather was terrible in every port. A cold front followed us the whole way and multiple excursions were cancelled. The kids couldn't even get in the pools for 4 out of the 7 days because of poor weather. I was totally bummed, but we still had an awesome trip and it actually made us consider doing things around the ship we probably would not have been able to experience if the weather was hot and sunny. I remember on pirate night i was so cold i had multiple layers of "warm" weather clothes and my hands were still freezing! All part of the memories! We did a Dream cruise in December last year and the weather was not much better, but it was at least sunny in Castaway Cay. I keep saying I am not going to cruise that time of year any more, but I am leaving in 3 weeks for another Dream cruise! The festive atmosphere on the ship makes up for any bad weather!

Can't worry about something you can't control. Been on cruises that can't dock at Castaway Cay because of wind. Nothing you can do about it.

We were "rained out" of our Castaway Cay day last year - was it disappointing? Sure. But we made the most of it. All the characters that usually met on the island were relocated to the ship, and extra activities were planned on board (trivia, movie showings, plus more in the kids club that I don't remember because it didn't pertain to us). We figured if we went swimming in the ocean, we would get wet anyway, so we went out onto the island. The cruise staff provided us with towels and complimentary ponchos, as well as dry, warmed towels for us when we returned to the ship.

Yeah, the weather was pretty miserable, but we made the best of it. We swam, got a drink, poked around the shops and managed to eat at both the adult BBQ and Cookies Too. We only lasted about 3 hours before we returned to the Fantasy to play some board games and watch movies with room service. It's not what I had planned my CC day to be, but you work with what you get. IMO you pay for the ship when you cruise, so the more time I spent on the ship the more I was getting my money's worth!

We didn't have a call for rain, at least on weather.com about 4 days out... we got on CC and it was a dark cloud blocking the sun starting at 10am... it was a little disappointing since we sprung for a cabana but we still really enjoyed ourselves... well at 2:30pm it was a downpour.. boy was I glad we had a cabana at that point! but it seriously only lasted about 25 minutes and it was over. Since it finished at around 3pm, the rest of castaway cay was pretty empty because people were ready to clean up after the downpour and had a healthy amount of time on CC... it really wasn't a big deal. We did get lucky though, we had a gorgeous day at Grand Cayman so I didn't are as much about how CC was going to go. Anyways you'll still have a magical time, even ifi it does rain! Have fun!

THis is almost the exact same forecast we had a couple weeks ago on our Fantasy cruise. In actuality, it didn't rain a drop all week except for a few rain squalls out at sea--the weather could not have been better.. beautiful the entire week.

The forecast was completely wrong!!
