Should I be concerned?

Ok, so its starting to sink in that my wedding is the day before Super Bowl.

For the non football watchers out there who say big deal... superbowl weekend is taking place in Tampa Bay this year...a mere hours' drive from WDW.

I'm not worried about the wedding day itself, but just kinda wondering how busy the parks will be, how hard it might be to get reservations for meals...what the heck do we do during the game and where can we watch it?

Just another thing to add to the list of things to stress over?

I wouldn't stress over it. Mainly because you have no control over it anyways. I don't think the parks are going to be over crowded. Another thought is fans don't know if their team is in the playoffs, let alone the superbowl, at the 180 mark for ADR's.

I stressed out about the Super Bowl b/c it was the day of our welcome party/meet and greet!

We had trouble finding a place to hold the party that wouldn't be showing the Super Bowl, and we lost some guests who wanted to watch it instead of coming to the party. Also, the wait for room service at our resort during the game was something like 2 hours. But other than that, it worked out fine!

Personally, I think you'll find fewer people in the parks due to the Super Bowl, not more. Places you can watch it: The ESPN Zone at the BoardWalk, but it will be CROWDED - people line up hours before it even opens; also, most resorts show it on a TV in at least one common area. They were showing it on the big TV in the Solarium at Beach Club Villas, which is where we'd originally planned to have our meet 'n' greet.

FIREFLY01 held her wedding that day - maybe she'll come along and let us know if/how it affected her.

Hey My Wedding Was Superbowl Sunday At 730 Pm Right After Kick Off!!! It Ended Up Being Fine, Most People Got Updates On Their Blackberry, My Dj Announced The Winner For Everyone, The Park Wasn't That Crowded At All Compared To Other Times It Was Busy For Hotels But They Were Having A Cheerleading Competition That Weekend.. We Left On Monday To Go On A Cruise Fr What I Understand It Got Busy After Then, But Ask Lurkyloo She Will Be Able To Tell You Exactly!!

I Got Some Crap In The Beginning Fr People But No One Didn't Come Because Of Superbowl. You Will Still Be Able To Block So Many Rooms So You Will Have Places To Stay Ask People Before You Do Your Room Blocks Where And How Long They Will Be There It Makes Doing Blocks Easier, And Tell Them To Make Reservations Sooner Than Later Scare Them It'll Work!!

I think most people are missing the point of the OP. Her wedding is the day before Superbowl which is happening in Tampa Bay (only an hour away). this year it was here in Phoenix, so crowds of course would not have been affected in WDW. I can tell you that we felt the effects of the extra people even in suburbs an hour away from Phoenix.

As for people not knowing if their teams are in, many people do not attend the SuperBowl for their "team". They attend because it is the super bowl! I think OP is just worried that people are already trying to book in hopes of attending the superbowl or at least the festivities.

I am sorry that you are worried about how this will affect you. I am sure you will be fine. Is there anyone out there who got married on or around a very large event of that sort????

I know from reading some of the comments on the Resorts Board there have already been some issues booking rooms around this time period. OP, I would work with your planner or someone at DFTW and ask them to frankly tell you what kind of impact they expect and go from there. :goodvibes

We have been to Disney 3 times during superbowl sunday, and the parks aren't really that bad. As for getting rooms to sleep, as always, book as far ahead as possible. That is their off season anyway. And as far as eating in the parks, just book what you can in advance. Now with the dining plan, most things book up quick anyway. One of the other posters said it too, just stay away from the sports venues.

Good luck

Gosh you are all a little sensitive here aren't you???? No one was getting snarky. Just pointing out that they missed OP's point... In your words:

Jeesh:headache:

yes, I'd be a little concerned with that big of an event being nearby that weekend. Not that it's directly related at all, but a couple years ago the Stanley Cup finals were here in NC and we had some people trying to come into town for business that couldn't find a hotel room within an hour of the venue, and that's a much smaller event (the building only held 29k people). Now, obviously the Orlando and tampa areas have a MUCH larger hotel capacity, but yes, I think you'll see some effect. I'd ask your planner. I think the superbowl is in Florida on a semi-regular basis, so they can probably give you a good idea. Like someone else mentioned, it'll give you a good reason to get your guests to book EARLY!!

I wouldn't be too concerned. Most people that have enough money to go to the superbowl either aren't too concerned about Disney because they're so rich, or they spent so much for tickets already, they won't have the money for Disney, or they live there and have already been.
