Should BCS System be abolished for Playoff system

Can you name one sport, pro or college, that requires teams to win their conferences to make the playoffs? Winning a conference guarantees a spot in the playoffs, but pretty much every sport I can think of allows for at large/wild card teams that don't win their division. I don't see why college football should be any different if they decided to institute a playoff for division 1.

Every college/university sport in Canada requires you to win your conference to play for the national title. There are some sports that do award a wildcard or two but that is it. In football, you win your conference to advance. Each conference also has their own playoffs to determine te conference champion.

I think they should just set up a provision for a posible addtional game needed.
I think they should keep bowl structure, but after bowls if team does not get enough of the vote(A very large majority), then they sould call for a deciding game.

Now you know how it feels to be a Boise State fan Texas got the short end of the stick this year but I'm sure they will still end up in a bowl and leave with about 18 million reason$ to be happy. BSU on the other hand will sit home and watch two loss OSU lose another BCS bowl game.

It depends of on the conference. The Big 12 had three top 8 teams. Do you want to cut two of these teams for some smaller conferences?

If that's what it takes to get a true champion, yes. If they are the best, they will get to the top.

The conference is not the only problem. Getting teams to play us is the real problem. We went to Oregon this September and beat the Ducks (first OOC team to win there in 24 years) and to repay us they are now trying to buy out the contract and not play us in Boise next year. Same old story ........... different team.

The bowls and the BCS has a sweetheart deal that they will not give up with a fight. No one but Congress and the White House has the storke to force change here. As noted in the OP, Congress may call hearings on the possible anti-trust violations inherent in the current system. The Obama white house could force negotiations and compromise here using the pressure of a DOJ investigation.

The current system is not going to change without pressure. The bowls and the networks are making too much money and will not change unless forced.

Well in a way that is true..........no one wins when they place us on the beautiful blue turf....so it definitely scares our opponents. Plus Bronco nation is very good at sending it's support to the field ! our boys definitely feel the love !
BSU is such a blue collar team, we take 1 month off a year from training/playing. lengthening the season would be easy for us, and would fit right into our work ethic.

I still think the creation of a possible tie(to close to call) game is the best way.
This way the bowls would keep their integrity and could decide the title.
Cinderellas could make it to bowls and if they win a big victory possibly be comnsidered. It wouldn't just be the four or 8 teams playing a playoff.

If a vote is still to close to call definatively(a very high margin the polls), between 2 or three teams they could play a game or 2. Only if neccesary.
