Should a teen bring a grad gift to party?

I have rarely seen a gift brought to a grad party. So I say, no gift.

If its a close friend thou, perhaps a subway or starbucks giftcard for $5-$10 would do.

My daughter just graduated last month. She invited a bunch of friends to her party. I'd say about half the kids that came brought her a $5-$10 gift card for Target or a fast food restaurant. The rest didn't bring anything. We were both actually surprised that some kids brought something as we really didn't expect a gift from any of her friends.

The kids go to so many parties it would be impossible to bring a gift to all of them!

As for my daughter, she did the same thing and took $10 Target cards to parties she went to with the exception of her two best friends whom she gave a more personal gift too.

Given that the kid is inviting 150-200 kids, I'm thinking maybe if you bring anything it should be a bottle of vodka.

DS is a Junior this year, and does not have many friends who are graduating this year. However, last year, as a sophomore, he was invited to a couple of grad parties of kids he played soccer with. He was the only sophomore on the varsity, and two of these kids were just so GOOD to him, really took him under their wing, made sure he did not get hassled (too much ;) ), things like that.

For those two kids, I did send him with a card and small check.

Next year will be a different story. He's got a group of about 10 that are all very very close, will probably start budgeting for those gifts because we really enjoy these kids, and would like to get them all a little something.

My dd17 is a junior and has been invited to some seniors' grad parties. The senior usually invites anywhere from 100-250 kids( they don't all come) plus family/friends. Do you think the other students will bring a gift? She has only gone to one other party for a classmate and did not bring one. She talks to the seniors at school but doesn't do things with them outside of school so they are not close friends.
I also want to add this is a small town in PA, so not a high socioeconomic area like NY/NJ where we used to live.

My daughter is a senior. She says just bring a card, unless it's a party for the best friend.

I guess I'm also in the minority, since we always sent ds with something, it never occurred to me to not send a gift.

My dd just graduated and is now going to many parties everyday! She isn't taking gifts and when she has her open house next weekend she isn't ' expecting any. To those who are surprised at how many people are coming, think back to when you were in high school and how many people would attend parties, that is how this is. The school passes out a list of all the parties to the graduates so they can attend each other's open house. There are no RSVPS, you just plan for how many you think will attend and go from there. We are expecting 150.
