Can kids or men wear shorts to dinner if they are nice shorts, like golf shorts?

This question gets asked frequently and often gets heated. You will get a variety of responses. In truth Disney asked that no one wears them in the dining rooms. People report doing it anyway and Disney saying nothing. Lots of people disaprove and lots of people don't care that others disaprove. You can respect Disney's request or thumb your nose at it. Either way you won't be turned away.

Stand by for some varying viewpoints on this.

Disney's request is that shorts not be worn in the dining rooms at dinner. For many, this is the end of the discussion.

That said, you should be forewarned that you will not see guests refused admittance for wearing shorts to the main dining rooms.

Palo and Remy are different. They both (I'm told) strictly enforce their dress code.

Short's are against DCL's request for dinner attire in the restaurant's.

"you are requested to not wear tank tops, swim wear or shorts for dinner."

You won't be turned away if you or any other member of your party wear them however with the exception of Palo and Remy.
You just have to make your attire decision's on those two fact's.

yup, what they said ^...I usually go by what the dress code asks for but honestly if i did see people wearing shorts, I wouldn't care. Won't mess up my vacation

I agree that shorts should not be worn in the dining rooms because DCL requests it, but I have long given up fighting it. I insisted my FIL wear pants to dinner (he put on the big pout) only to be surrounded by shorts every night (even on Semi-Formal night)...so, I give up! I even inquired to our server about it and he looked at me like I had 3 heads and said "Of course shorts are fine...everything is fine".
If DCL won't inforce their own policy, who am I to enforce it?

ditto

I did pay attention on our last cruise on the Dream last summer and saw many men and kids wearing shorts in the main dining rooms.
So you will most likely see others wearing them at dinner (not in Palo or Remy though).

:scratchin Weird...you can't wear shorts, but you can wear jeans? :confused:To each his own.:rolleyes2

Well, that is what DCL asks.

OP-Would you wear shorts to a nice restaurant at home? Look at the MDRs on the ship the same way you would a nicer sit down place on land.

What's wrong with jeans? Nice, dark, slim fitting jeans can look quite nice with a pretty blouse and some dressy sandals. Same goes for men but paired with a nice shirt and/or jacket.

As to the "no shorts" controversy, we like to stick to the dress code. I do wear capris but don't think they'd be classified as shorts. We don't mind dressing nice for dinner as it's part of the fun for us. That being said, we couldn't care in the least what other patrons are wearing. It doesn't affect our vacation and I don't really understand why some people on the board can get so upset over someone else's attire. :confused3 It's certainly not the huge moral issue that some make it out to be. :goodvibes

Tons of men in shorts. Most have nice polos with it, so I think they look fine.

Yet by the same token you probably wouldn't wear jeans to a nicer sit down place on land..yet you can in the ship dining rooms..:confused3 Ya gotta wonder about that..
Additionally, one can wear shorts to the the signature restaurants in Disney World. Again,..it just makes one wonder how they come up with guidelines for suggested attire. That being said..it is what it is. ;)

I know:idea:..just so the hubby's shorts don't go to waste, the OP should wrap those suckers around the kids waist with a bungee cords, and... :wizard: There ya go. Disney Cruise Pantalones. :rotfl:

So to the OP, as you have already seen in just 12 post's, there are those that have respect for the cruise line's request, those that chose to interpret the request in their own way, make suggestions that shorts and jean's are both the same, and those that just plain don't care and because someone else doesn't then that's the green light for them to do the same, and those that compare the ship's to WDW restaurant's.

The fact is DCL request no tank tops, swim wear or shorts for dinner. FACT.

Whether you chose to respect the wishes of the cruise line is up to you!

BTW auntie, The attire is requested, not suggested, so asked for, not hinted at.

Are you tying to be funny?
WDW and DCL have different standards because they are different entities. Obviously a restaurant inside a theme park will have a different dress code from a restaurant a few hundred yards, at most, from your room. As far as jeans, it depends on the restaurant. I have only been on the Magic but the restaurants remind me of nicer restaurants, not a TGI Fridays in a mall parking lot. So no, I personally would not and did not wear jeans in the MDR. They are clearly trying to set up a certain atmosphere. It's not like they are asking people to wear a suit and tie every night!

EXACTLY
I get so tired of people that can/will not dress correctly:thumbsup2

I think jeans are fine for dinner, if you are dining at a Cracker Barrel. :cool1:

Just wore my nice jeans to Cracker Barrel tonight:thumbsup2 and they will NOT be going with me on my cruise in July.
I have 1 pair of nice jeans and I always wear them to Cracker Barrel. I call them my Cracker jeans!
