Does anyone have any suggestions for shorts for a super skinny kid? :confused3

He wears size 16 Gap Slims with the adjustable waist pulled as tight as it will go, but their slim style shorts are too short for his leg length. To make it worse, the child has NO butt (his hips are wider than the widest part of his bottom :rotfl2:), so his pants/shorts must have some kind of elastic in the waist, or they just slide down.

For years I just sewed in a few gathers in athletic style shorts to make them fit, but now that he needs a longer length, there is just toooo much waist material to make that method work.

TIA :goodvibes

Have you tried American Eagle? They have a longer length short this year- I think they call them long boards- and they have a waist size as small as a 26. My DS18 is very tall and thin- 6'0" with a 34" inseam and a 30" waist, and we are pretty limited as to wear we can shop (for the styles HE likes). American Eagle is our "go to" store. Everything there fits him very well.

Shorts have always been an issue for him because he has freakishly long legs, and the styles for the past few years have been at the knee- which for him, is about 3" above the knee...

ETA: you won't find elastic in the AE shorts, but he might have to start wearing a belt. My DS has to wear a belt all the time. It is habit now-

My 13 year old son wear athletic shorts with drawstring waist. That way you can just pull the shorts in a tight as you need. He has some Nike, Adidas ect that can be bought for about $20.

My 14 yo son is 6 foot and weighs 132 pounds.

He wears "basketball" shorts from either Under Armor or Nike. They are longer then the other athletic shorts, plus with the elastic band, they fit him in the waist.

For Cargo both Aero and AE are too short.

I did find shorts at Kohls for him. They are the brand name of the skater dude, Tony Hawk. They are advertised as a longer length and go below his knee.
Just checked , they are a 29 waist.

My 15 y/o son has a 27" waist and a 34" inseam. While long pants are impossible to buy off the rack, I have never had trouble buying him shorts that were long enough. Kohls, Target, and Old Navy all carry the adjustable waist in the boys department and length has never been a problem. He has an assortment of cargo shorts and plaid shorts that fit perfectly and go down to the middle of his knee.

JCP carries slims with adjustable waists boys sizes up to 18. I know what you are going through. DS12 is 6ft tall. We decided to go into mens clothing. he wears a 29x32.

I am impressed with you moms who know exact sizes, lengths and inseams. I would have no idea, to that degree. L or XL is about it for me. Thankfully my son only likes athletic shorts and pants. I bought him one pair of jeans a few months ago and guessed at the size. I was wrong. But he didn't like them anyway. :rotfl:

My DS is 11, and tall & skinny. He's 5'3" and weighs 90 pounds. In shorts, I buy boys 16 with elastic waists and cinch them tight. Jeans are tougher. Boys 16s are too short, so we buy 28x32 from Aero or AE. Then he's got an assortment of belts that he has to wear so his jeans don't pool around his knees.

Apparently he may be built like my brother who is 6'4" and 160 pounds (skinnier as a teen). For years my mom had to special order 28x36 for him...not fun for her at all. At that time, I think JC Penney catalog carried a very limited number of that size.

Some athletic shorts are longer than others. I found myself holding them up until I found the longest. My son often wears a second pair to make sure he doesn't lose his pants completely. Look through Eddie Bauer and Lands End for Tall sizes. Pennys has a Tall department too. My husband searches for 'long rise' shorts.
