Shortening a trip?

Question I hope someone here can answer for me: I am planning on going to Disneyland(The Disney Collection) in November or December, but may have to CHANGE my dates or SHORTEN the trip after it has been booked. Is it possible to shorten a reservation, and get back those points, or does the whole reservation have to be cancelled?

I think if I have to cancel the whole reservation (with more than 4 days notice) it may be difficult to get another reservation during the holidays.

Any thoughts?

Thanks all!

Since that is a trade out of system (not DVC), any changes or cancellations will result in points being left in limbo as reservation points, and not DVC points. Reservation points can only be used for stays in the Disney Collection, so your "refunded" day or days would have to be used that way, and I believe there is also a timeperiod in which they must be used. I don't remember that part of it for sure. I'd have to look it up in my documents.

Yes, my understanding is that canceled reservations must be rescheduled by the end of the current year(not banked). And that works for us as we travel to Disneyland 3-4 times per year. My biggest concern is "splitting" the reservation, and wondering if we can get some of the points back if we shorten the trip.

Thanks for the response!

Any other advice? Has anyone else had to cancel only some of their days? Do you get partial points back? Or do you have to cancel the whole reservation and begin again?

Anyone?

My advice still stands... NO, you can not get those points back except as reservation points.

Thanks, but I guess I'm asking the question wrong, since that is really not my question.

I know you cannot get regular DVC points back. I understand that you can only get them back as resrvation points to be used within the same category(Disney Collection), within the same year, and these points can no longer be banked. I got that part. And, that's fine with us, as we use most of our points at DL anyway.

My question is: can you get only SOME of the points back if you cancel or change only SOME of the days? Or, do you have to cancel the ENTIRE reservation and start over?

Any points left over and not used in the changed reservation will become reservation points. We are saying the same thing. If you cancel 1 night, the points for that night would become reservation points.

Thanks. Yes, that was my question. So, if I can just one night, I don't have to cancel the entire reservation.

Cool!

Yes, you can cancel a day(s) at the beginning or end of your reservation and get those reservation points returned to your account. You don't have to cancel the entire reservation and rebook.

You must cancel at least 6 days prior to arrival to get the reervation points returned to your account. If you cancel 5 days or less prior to arrival, the reservation points are forfeited.

You already know that reservation points cannot be banked and expire at the end of the current use year if not used before then.
