Short update on Kitty (MsDisney23)

I think most everyone has seen and read Kitty's thread from yesterday afternoon......

Urgent! I am be put in the hospital, I might loose my new Organ!

I went to see the Transplant Team this morning. OH what a mess I am in. On the way home they called and told us the bad news. My blood test came back very bad. I am in rejection of my new Pancreas. Also I only have 50% kidney function. I am also in mild congestive heart failure.

Gary and I are now getting my things back up for the trip back to the hospital. They are going to admit me. I will get loaded up on all kinds of meds, which will make me sick. There is a possible that I might have to be air-lifted back to The University of Maryland Medical Center.

I am so scared, I am not going to lie. I ask all of you to keep me in your prayers. I have PM Dan Murphy with my home address for those who wish to send me a greeting card. I will miss you while I am gone. I Hope to be home soon.

I think between PM's and emails sent to me, and the thread that experiment626mom started, that was subsequently locked, about 60 or so folks will have cards and well wishes heading Kitty's way very soon.

I was able to call and talk to Kitty this afternnon. She is in the hospital, a private room. Anybody coming into her room needs to wear a gown and mask to guard against possible infection. When Kitty answered, she sounded somewhat tired, pretty worn out. But after a few minutes of my jabber, she sounded pretty good, pretty normal. She did say that she had talked to her DD, Lauren, (can't recall now if yesterday or today) at her college, and she was wanting to come back home (she just went back a few days ago after taking one year off to help at home after Kitty's transplant). Kitty told her to stay put, get settled in to the school again, she would prefer her to stay there.

Kitty said she is on a different anti-rejection medicine now plus will start on some sort of steroid meds tomorrow, and those are the ones she was referring to that will make her feel pretty yucky and sick. She is hoping, if things go well, she could be back home in a week or ten days. If problems, she has no idea, including a possible airlift to a different hospital.

I passed on to her just how many people cared about her here on the DIS, and when I did I could hear her actually gasp. I think I could even detect some tears there. Kitty asked me to tell eveybody she is thinking about all the folks here on the DIS and that she really misses stopping by and saying hello as she does every day. After about 30 minutes or so, I wanted to let her get back to a more restful time, and told her I would talk to her again some time in the coming days.

So, that is the update, not a whole lot of news, but Kitty is hanging in there, has the fighting spirit that we all have seen her demonstrate in the past. She has been a fighter, remains a fighter. And our prayers, good wishes and thoughts, along with those many cards, notes or whatever, will go a long way in sustaining her in her fight. She thanks everybody here, very much.
