Hi everyone,

I am thinking of a short break to New York in December... shh don't tell anyone I am going to be 30 :scared1: and I was just wondering who are the best companies to look at price wise?

What hotels would you recommend etc, it would just be DH and I as I have already managed to book the baby sitters!:goodvibes

Thanks in advance!

We booked everything separately - rather then a package. We flew with BA and then booked our hotel over the internet (hotels.com, I think). We were there in 2006 and stayed at the Belvedere on West 48th St. It was nice and clean and good value. Tripadvsor feedback still seems fairly positive.

I booked the open-top tour bus and tickets for the Empire State building online before we went too.

I love New York.

My Mum loves The Plaza up at the top of 5th Avenue, but if it were me going I wouldn't spend that much on what I think is a hotel charging more because of it's name.

If Jack and I go I'd choose either the W, or the Millenium Broadway, both in Times Square. I think it's a great location, especially if you've not been before. The Marriott Marquis has a revolving restaurant on the roof which is definitely worth a visit, and maybe worth pricing up as a hotel too as it's a good location. :)

I've just got back from New York and I stayed at The New York Palace, which was AMAZING! It was expensive but well worth it. :thumbsup2

Thanks guys.
Can I just ask if you flew into JFK or Newark? Would you think that Newark would be ok? Or is it going to be a pain to get to the city from there?

I've flown to and from both, and I didn't notice much difference in the cab journeys. :) Whichever has the better flights would be my preference. It's like a Heathrow or Gatwick sort of question. Both fine for london, but both a bit outside of the city itself.

I flew into JFK and we took the AirTrain/subway journey to Manhattan. This is much cheaper than taking a taxi: $5 for the AirTrain and $2.25 for a single subway journey (we bought week passes though, for $27). A taxi costs $60 each way.

As Torsie said though, Newark would be fine too. :thumbsup2

Has it gone up? Was only $45 when we went last year, set by the city/state as a standard.

Obviously I'm gonna second the New York Palace as a great hotel, a little bit away from Central Park and Times Square, has a courtyard which is like a little haven away from the bustle of what's immediately outside it!!

We popped into the Plaza too and it looks a great hotel - some friends of ours stayed there and loved it as well.

We flew into JFK and caught a yellow cab (at a standard fare) into Manhattan.

A fab experience in itself!

We booked with Expedia for our trip in March and stayed at the Hilton garden Inn Times Square, superb hotel for the price, rated really highly on tripadvisor as well.

I am just back from my 30th birthday trip :thumbsup2 I promise, it doesnt hurt. We used letsgo2.com - the were absolutely fantastic!! Stayed at the New Yorker on 34th and 8th, across the street from Madison Square garden and 5 minutes from Macys. The hotel was great and the diner in the hotel Tick Tock, was fab and really convenient. We flew into Newark, I think the distance in miles from any of the airports into Manhattan are about the same. I had the best time ever!!! I do :lovestruc NYC xx

:rotfl::rotfl: Thanks! I was worried about that!

Thanks to everyone for the advice! I'm just trying to convince DH
