Shore Excursions - opinions

Castaway...the package that includes snorkeling, float, and bike....except that now, we bring our own equipment and snorkel for free.

Nassau...stay on the ship.....

Nassau- Day pass at British Colonial Hilton. Really enjoyed their beach and pool. There's an outdoor restaurant. Everything is clean and lovely. No vendors hawking hairbraiding etc. Easy walk from teh peir.

We did the Blue Lagoon beach excursion on our first. It was very nice. There is a shallow inlet if you have smaller kids.

We did the catamaran sail and snorkel this past year. It was great as well.

I liked the catamaran more because of the timing. We were back around 1:00 and had time to go into Nassau (we only spent a little time here-it was sooooo hot!)

We did the Dolphin Swim at the Blue Lagoon near Nassau last week. We booked directly with them. It's expensive (about $145 per person) but worth it. Dancing with dolphins. Dolphins jumping over you. Dolphins pushing you around the lagoon. My 9 year old son received memories for a lifetime.

Awatt - Do you need to do this online in advance or just turn up and buy a day pass? How much were the day passes?

DisJazz - can you tell me more about dolphin swim? How deep is the water? How long were you in with the dolphins? How many people in at one time? Any other useful info?

Cheers
Mel

If you're a bit the adventurer, try the parasailing at CC....you'll have a spectacular view of the island above anywhere from 500 to 800 feet.....if you do this one, make sure you bring a camera (waterproof) so you can get some good shots while hanging out there :smooth: ....... Andy

I think that the water must be 12-18 feet deep. You wear a short wet suit and a life vest, so it's about impossible to sink. I believe that kids under 5 can't do the swim. You do need some swimming skills as you have to swim out to and back from the foot push. They have a maximum of 10 people in the group. You spend some where between 30-45 minutes with the dolphins. They videotape the program and you can buy the tape for about $45. You also get kisses from the dolphins and one single lady in our group said it was the best kiss she'd had in 5 years.

Just like a previous response, I would highly reccommend the dolphin swim in Nassau. It was the most amazing thing I have done in my 42 years. You must book it yourself because Disney does not use this excursion. They have a different Dolphin encounter that is not nearly as extensive, but more expensive. If you need help booking it E-Mail me and I will send you all the particulars. We also did the snorkling in Castaway, a real let-down. There were not many fish and the few we saw were identical. There is so much to do on Castaway you don't really need an excursion, although the banana boat ride is a blast and doesn't take much time.

I'd so like more information on the Day pass at British Colonial Hilton. Sound ideal!
Thanks!
Michelle
