Knowing that some of us are getting ready to sail into hurricane/TS weather :umbrella: , I'm curious about shore excursions when a cruise is diverted to other ports. I'm sure DCL normally refunds to the onboard account any DCL-reserved shore excursions for ports that it cannot sail to. But when a cruise is diverted to a different port(s) are there shore excursions available at the diversion port(s)? If so, how are reservations made for those shore excursions - is it just a matter of working through the Shore Excursion desk onboard on a first-come, first-served basis?

I know there are a bunch of folks on this board who must have gone through this. Just wondering how it all works?

Hopefully, I won't get any first-hand experience with it!!!:rolleyes1

When our Sept. 2000 cruise was diverted, they did refund anything booked, and had arragned for excursions in the alternate port (in our case, we stopped at Key West instead of St. Maarten). If I recall correctly, we filled out a sheet with three choices and handed it in at the excursions desk. We ended up getting our first choice. I'm pretty sure this was before they allowed you to pre-book excursions, so it worked pretty much the way it would have if we sailed the scheduled itinerary.

Just to emphasis DISNEY BOOKED EXCURSIONS

No guarantee of refunds if you book on your own.

We sailed last September and were diverted A LOT....

We never made it to Cozumel or Grand Cayman where DH had scuba excursions booked thru Disney....both were refunded...actually, I never even saw them on our account statement which I checked several times during the cruise. We learned that we were being diverted to San Juan and St. Thomas, and were sent a list of offered excursions. We were told to make reservations at guest services. Well let me tell you, they went FAST!!! And the line at guest services was long! DH was not able to get onto the St. Thomas scuba dive at first. However due to the demand, they made more spaces available, and DH was able to book the dive. Well, we never made it to St. Thomas because hurricane Jeanne was fast approaching, so we were never charged for the St. Thomas excursion either.

We are sailing again in October and are hoping that we will not have the same experience! Good luck!
