Shopping mall or high street?

...... probably a bad time of year to ask, but which do you prefer?

Are you near enough to a mall to be a regular visitor ( if so, which mall is it?)

We only visit very occasionally (before Christmas is an annual must) - Lakeside ( an hour away) or Bluewater ( an hour and a bit M25 permitting) and when we visit Manchester, we like to go to the Trafford Centre.

Our malls have pretty much destroyed most of our "main street" shopping. It's really a pity. You still find really nice shops in the shopping districts of big cities, and a few smaller ones.

Malls are certainly more convenient, but they're so impersonal and standard (throughout the country). I say this, but where do I do most of my shopping? The mall.

I love shopping in a Mall - all under one roof, dry, warm - pop back to the car with parcels etc - great.

Since moving though I have only been back to Lakeside twice and have to say that I find it all too much! LOL --- too busy. I have got quite accustomed to our quaint little shops in Stowmarket and Needham Market. Bury St Edmunds is a lovely olde type shopping area and is great on Market day if you're not pushing a wheelchair round -

---- so my opinion is EITHER ~ so long as it's shopping I'm still your girl! LOL

Definitely malls for me! Especially with our weather - no running from shop to shop trying to miss the showers!

I'm close to both Bluewater and Lakeside (less than half an hour from both) but think that Bluewater has the edge - classy place!

Our nearest proper mall is the MetroCenter, but much of the center of Newcastle is under cover in Eldon Square (which was in it's day the biggest mall in Europe, or so I've often been told.)

I prefer Newcastle, because you can be undercover, or outside and when it's really crowded then it's nice to get out and get a bit of fresh air - also the main street is pedestrianised, so it's still pretty convenient (if sometimes a bit damp...)

I don't think I could cope with dodging traffic to do my shopping.

our local high street (Whitley Bay) is hopeless, I can buy shoes, or visit charity shops, and estate agents, but that's about your lot!

Shopping the in the centre of Leicester (downtown Leicester for our US pals ), you get the best of both. There are two large indoor malls and lots of pedestrianised streets too. The malls are nice, spacious and warm with a good choice of shops, while the streets outside have lots of special entertainments for Xmas shoppers. Shopping outside does give you a better Xmas atmosphere with all the street entertainment and 'Del Boy' type traders

Please don't shoot me (especially Janice), but I could never make a day of shopping. I enjoy it to an extent (especially if it's a new place) but just to shop --- not me.

We have a two new upscale malls in our area and both are indoor-outdoor. It has a Main Street complete with fountains, along with an indoor mall that's loads of fun. Very Unique - and gorgeous too

There are even overnight tours!!!! Janice, pack your bags. I'll go with you, give you a tour and even have a great lunch (which is really my idea of shopping ) but after that, you're on your own - I'll be in the coffee shop at the bookstore reading books on WDW

The best Mall nearest to us is in Reading - The Oracle.

It has loads of shops under one roof on 2/3 floors and lots of restaurants and cafes along a river outside, it is really nice and very clean. It's alovely place to go for the day - especially in the summer.

It also has DW's fave shop: The Disney Store!
