Shopping in Orlando City Centre

Although we have (and will again) visit some of the malls around Orlando, is it worth travelling into Orlando city centre for shopping? The reason I ask is that whilst the malls seem to sell lots of things like clothes, shoes, jewellry, sunglasses and perfume there is a distinct lack of things like CD's, DVD's, computers, games & gadgets - as my wife calls them "Boys Toys".

Has anyone got any experience of shopping within the city? Would you reccomend it? An important question has to be, is it safe? I'd be happy enough to find the american equivalent of HMV or Virgin. All the tourist guides seem to point shoppers to Belz, Premium Outlets, Florida Mall, Millenia etc but from what I can see, these have the 'usual' shops and don't sell the things I'm looking for.

Citizens of Orlando must buy CD's DVD's and eltronic stuff from somewhere...

Thanks in advance :)

To be honest, downtown Orlando (the city 'centre') is not really designed for shopping, apart from a few stores at Church Street Exchange and the Saturday farmer's market, plus a few art stores in the Thornton Park area, adjacent to Lake Eola. As Obi Wan Kenobi says, the big chain stores offer most electrical goods, although there are also shops like Brookstone and Sony Style in places like Mall at Millenia and Florida Mall, too. This really is THE place to shop, no matter what you're looking for!

Since you will be driving, you can also try Waterford Lakes Center, off Alafaya Trail by University of Central Florida. You can get there either by 528 to 408 EW Expressway towards Titusville and get off at Alafaya or stay on 417 to the Titusville Exit and go to Alafaya.

There are also some other stores there, such as BJ's club Warehouse. Check about getting a membership - it will be worth it and you can get a lot of DVDs and electronics there. Best Buy, Comp USA, Office Max, Staples, Circuit City, Target, Wal-Mart all sell electronics, dvds, etc.

Also, on Sandlake Road (right behind the Florida Mall) is another mini stip mall that just opened up. They have some stores in there, but one of my favorites and for all the locals here is ROSS Department Store. The prices are great for a lot of designer fashions and jeans, which you can get for $12 tp 20 dollars US.

If you need any information, email me. Best of Luck. Stay out of the Timberland Stores at the Mall and buy your Timberlands at the Outlet, for about 40% less. Also, if you get a weekend newspaper check out the ads and if you find an add in a store that is lower in another store, just show them the add and they will match it and in some instances give you an extra 10% off.

Semoran actually goes directly to the airport. Can't get lost. Those are major roads that go from one city into the next in Orange County, Osceola County. And in case you get lost, follow any of the signs for Orlando International (not Sandford) and then from there to the resorts.
