How do I protect my camera from getting wet on rides such as Splash Mountain? On past trips, I just put my P&S camera in a camera bag and put the bag in my backpack and never worried about it. This trip I will have my Digital Rebel XT with me and I am very concerned about keeping it dry. Would the camera be safe if I tied a trash bag around the camera bag and then put it in the backpack? Thanks for your input.

Aunt Kelly, Wear a rain poncho on the ride and put the camera under the rain poncho when needed. :)

gallon size ziplock bag around camera, in fact, 2 would be better with zippers 180 degrees from each other. this has never failed me

We have a waterproof camera bag and have never had a problem with it getting wet. For the times we want to make extra sure it is dry, we just stick it in a plastic bag of some sorts.

Do you want to use it while you are on the ride, or just protect it in general? If you want to protect it in general, a waterproof camera bag or ziplock will do teh trick. If you want to use it on the ride, you need a clear plastic bag--but not a zip lock. You wrap the bag around the camera with only the lens sticking out. I'll try to take a photo of how this is done and post it later tonight. I do it when I'm covering outdoor festivals and it's raining. As long as the rain isn't so hard that I can't keep my lens dry even with a hood, I'll keep working with my camera wrapped, so it's pretty water tight.

When caught short I go into a shop and ask for a large plastic bag.

Thank you everyone for the advice. As always everyone was very helpful. Ducklite, I'm only concerned about keeping my camera dry while on water rides like Splash Mountain, I don't plan on taking any pictures while riding. (I'm a major chicken and therefore too busy holding on for dear life to try and take pictures while riding!). :teeth:

The Ziplocks always work well when double bagged. You could also look into protecting your camera in general with a different carrying case/bag. Several companies (such as LowePro) make camera bags designed for foul weather and even have a built in rain cover that will cover the case in extreme weather.

I always carry a rain poncho with me as well, because it never fails that the days I don't I end up quickly buying 4 more. :scared:

Another vote for the zip lock bag!

I'm hoping you can save me tons of time searching all over the boards. I need all kinds of pictures of Splash Mountain, all angles all details. I always make my son cool cakes for his birthday and I'm seriously considering a Splash Mountain theme this year.

If you can post pictures you think would help in my endeavor, please post them here or email them to me at ratlenhum@aol.com

Thanks
Kerrie

Incredible shots! Thanks for sharing!

You are welcome. I'm surprised that you didn't get more shots. People on the board are usually quite generous in sharing their pics. If you need others or have future needs, you might try the Anyone have a photo of... thread on the scrapbook forum. A lot of people share photos there.

Those pictures are unbelievable! What camera (and lens) did you use?

Thanks for the compliment. Those pictures were taken on a couple of different trips with a couple of different cameras. The older shots were taken with a Canon 1D Mark II. The newer ones were taken with a Canon 5D Mark II. Most of the shots were taken with a Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens, which is one of the cheapest lenses that Canon makes. Most of the others were taken with a Canon 24-70 f/2.8.

Thanks for the tip on the scrapbooking board Mark. Someone did suggest google images on another thread and I found a few good ones there.

This cake will be tough. I either have to pick one specific thing and make it very detailed, or make a very simple version of the mountain. Disney and all their detail... :)
