MCKINNEY - One person is confirmed dead, after shots were fired outside the police department in McKinney, on Tuesday morning.
The nearby Collin College on 2200 West University Drive is now on lockdown.
Students were sent an e-mail alert at 9:45 a.m. saying "Shots fired at Central Park Campus. Campus on lockdown. Cops on scene. Details forthcoming."
"The situation is confined to the area near the McKinney Public Safety Building... One suspect is confirmed dead from gunshot wounds. Whether they are self-inflicted, we are not sure," said Anna Folnsbee with the McKinney Public Information Office.
"As far as we know, there aren't any further injuries, other than that one death that has been confirmed," she added.
"I was working in my office here at home and heard a couple of pops and looked out the window... and didn't see anything. Probably about 10 or 15 seconds later, a couple more pops happened. I looked back out, I didn't see anything and I would say probably a minute went by and a whole lot of popping went on," said McKinney resident Randy Askew.
There are reports of a second gunman on the loose.
"As we were driving by the police station, we saw the white pick up truck and trailer which was on fire. I heard the popping sound coming from my right, I turned and looked and there was a man... with a bullet proof jacket on and what appeared to be a semi-automatic rifle and he was taking shots. When I made eye contact with him and saw him, he was turning towards a campus police officer's vehicle that was coming round the corner and he took a couple of shots in that direction," said witness, Matt.
"It appeared he was shooting at vehicles, as they would come by," he added.
