Shoes, feet soreness -any tips?

pixiedust:
Just the inspiration I needed to get some new shoes!!!!
While reading this post it brought back memories of the pain of our WDW trip! :crazy2: Sounds like we have the same feet.
I can say that my feet do get sore at DL also, but never that bad. So I went shopping yesterday and bought a new pair of New Balance walking shoes they are like heaven. Of course my feet need a wide shoe and new balance always seem to feel good. I also got socks called tabulator which look wierd but work great. They give a little extra proctection in the back of the ankle. So we head out in a little over a week. and I am hope for a happy foot trip :joker:

SInce I found crocs about 9 years ago I haven't had any foot pain at Disney. I only wear crocs at disney. I suffer from arthritis in both ankles but you wouldn't know it with the crocs.

Keens for both DH (oxford style) and myself (maryjane style). Gel insoles for both. Wool hiking socks (REI) for both (cool in hot weather, warm in cold weather -- and they wick sweat and prevent blisters). This combo works better than any tennis shoe or flip flop we've ever tried. If you need extra arch support, you can buy elastic bands to slip over you foot at the arch. No foot pain, no blisters, no plantar fasciitis trouble. If your leg and feet muscles get sore or just overtired, rubbing with arnica gel really helps (arnica also prevents bruising).
And, just in case, blister band-aids are great! Our nephew gets blisters every trip, and these really help him. They are waterproof, so once you put them on, you can keep them on for a day or two without disturbing the sore spot.

I just hurt my foot pretty bad this week. This makes me nervous as we leave in just over 2 weeks. Last time we were at DL my feet were killing me. This time I bought some Keens, Crocs and good walking shoes. I am not sure this is going to help if my foot already hurts.

Along side a good pair of shoes/sandals, you need to make sure you take care of your feet at the end of the day. I always lotion them at night and powder them in the AM.

Story:
In 2009 I made the mistake of wearing brand new, unworn sandals. By day two, my feet were so bad I had to buy new flip-flops at Paradise Pier on the Boardwalk.

If you can get some arnica gel/cream (most health food stores carry it) and start rubbing it into your foot now (and on your trip), you should notice an improvement quickly.

Looking ahead to cooler weather... what do you wear in Nov/Dec? I supposed it's shallow, but is it too much to look somewhat fashionable while being comfy? I am planning on wearing my hiking shoes one day but would like to switch to a different shoe the next day. I have higher top hiking boots, not too heavy, that I could switch to, or running shoes. I'm debating 2 months out ;). I'd love ideas. I liked the Dansko clog idea, but a bit too much $ for me just now. I had a great pair of Born clogs, but they actually broke last year after 6 years of faithful wearing :(.

Also, for blisters, I buy "new skin" it's a liquid bandage. It looks a lot like clear nail polish, but you apply it anytime you have a hot spot, or cut etc. and it is a clear barrier preventing a full blown blister. It's in my backpack :). I'll be adding those bandaid blister bandages to my pack now, thanks! And I should prob. look into the glide and arnica. Good stuff!

If you don't mind me asking, how is your foot hurt? I've been battling major foot pains and an injury and feel like I'm finally getting somewhere with it in the past 48 hours.

It is just the bottom of my foot. It only hurts to walk on. No pain when rubbing hard. Advil helps and ice. It came on suddenly while I was relaxing at home. Some think it is plantar fasciitis. Hopefully it will feel better soon, or I am going to be in big trouble.

If it is PF, make sure to have good arch support for your shoes (insert, custom orthotic, elastic bands, etc.). That and some gentle stretching exercises should really help.

3) Mint foot spray and lotion (there's soaks, scrubs, etc but I don't bother with those). This can help keep your feet "cooler." I apply some in the morning to my feet and calves, some in the afternoon if I go back to my room, and then some before bed.
.

Where do you get that at?

We rent scooters and they are awesome. We do not have any disabilities but we rent one and switch off depending on who is more tired at the time. It has made our visits to the parks much easier on our feet and we have more energy to have fun. It's awesome. :surfweb:

I just bought a pair of these:

I'm going to wear them around the house to test out their comfortableness.

I have those! Two pair of them, actually. I have plantar fasciitis and those are some of the only shoes that I can walk around all day in and not have miserable foot pain. I also really love my Sanuks.

I just got those too (in brown) a few weeks ago from Amazon. Those are now my everyday work shoes. I'm a preschool teacher and on my feet all day. They are also nice for walking through wet grass, gravel, and the sandbox because they wipe off easily. I will be brining them to DLR in November.

I would bet that it is the start of plantar's fasciitis. I have it bad in both feet and am starting to get somewhere with it. I would start treating yourself as if you do just in case, because it takes time in my experience. Try using a tennis ball or something about that size to stand on and massage the bottom of the foot. I would guess that you will find a tender spot then. You can also lie on your back and take a towel and put your leg straight up and pull against the arch of your foot to stretch out the foot. I have been doing both as well as using a Tens machine (the little electrode things). We happen to have one and it certainly doesn't have a setting for the bottom of the feet but I've been putting in on the hand setting and putting it on high and my feet have felt do much better the last three days. I've been on my feet for the last six house, and in 20 minutes, will have another six hours. When i get home I will put my feet above my head, put the electrodes on the bottom of my feet and eventually beg DH to massage them if he's still awake. In the morning I will do the electrodes and massage again. I really hope you beat this!

I wore my classic style Toms on our trip. My feet did not have a problem at all. I was comfortable the entire trip. I don't like wearing tennis shoes because I hate to wear socks. I bought the Toms a couple of weeks before we went, and they were perfect. They are now my go-to shoes when I am going to be doing a larger amount of walking.

Thank you everyone for the ideas to beat this PF stuff. I have been doing lots of them and feeling better already.

I've been concerned about PF as well. We leave in 20 days and I just bought two new pair of Crocs. I bought the Duet flip flops and a pair of those Kadee's. I've been stretching and icing it every day and it's been helping.
