Shoe me what ya got!

Asics Gel Kayanos and 2120s. However, I think the Kayanos aggravated my PF.

I'm still searching for the perfect running shoe.

I'm pretty certain that the Kayanos are part of what caused my back/hip issue (I have a bulging disk). I have a slightly turned out right foot due to many years of classical ballet and the Kayanos I think agrevated the problem rather than fixing it.

Back to the drawing board......

Dave - As I'm going to be walking rather than running for the near future any advise on types of shoes to look at?

Minnie look for shoes with a lower heel, good flexability and good cushioning. The light weight trainers of most brands are good walking shoes. You just have to try some different ones to see what fits you best. Erica and I wear racing flats. They make great walking shoes.

Do not get "walking shoes" even the shoe company reps will tell you they suck. But people think they need a heavy stable shoe for walking.

I started out with Brooks Adrenaline GTS 6, trained with and wore the Brooks Ariels for the WDW '07 half (mistake!!!) and now I'm back to Brooks Adrenaline GTS 7. So far, so good.

Mizunos for me just now. I've go 2 I alternate: Wave Creation and Wave Rider.

I have a neutral foot for sizing.

I like a lot of room in the toe box area but a snug fit on my heels. I don't like a shoe that's tight on the top of my foot either.
I think I have the same issues especially the top being too tight. I've been known to obsessively tie and re-tie these shoes until I get it "just right." I also use a different lacing technique to alleviate some of that tightness. I hate it when the heel slips too.

I bought a pair of Asics 2120 trail shoes for a trail run I never ran.

Ok for short runs on asphalt?

Hi, Big Vic!
I love my Asics 2110's, so when the new 2120's came out I bought a pair without thinking twice. Well, I ran in them for a week and got shin splints! :confused3 I immediately started calling all the Dick's Sporting Goods (don't ever google just "Dick's--I'm on all the porn lists now :scared1: ) locations in my area and found 2 pairs of the 2110's. I hope you have better luck with the trail version--just be on the lookout for sore lower legs.
I'm not sure about using trail shoes on anything but trails.
Have fun training for Mickey! I'll see you there!

I still can't believe how much shoes change from year to year. Sometimes even a minor upgrade can make a major change with how they feel and work.

I compared the trail shoes to the normal running shoes and they're pretty close. May just have to get out there and try them and see how they feel.

Thanks for the info. See you in January.

I have freakishly high arches with disturbingly narrow feet, so I have made it my personal mission to try every cushioned running shoe on the planet :rolleyes1

Brooks are too firm for me. NB are too wide.

I have tried two different Mizunos, currently have Wave Rider 9. They have good arch support and are narrow but I think I've finally decided they are too firm as well. Also, they're a little shallow for my orthotics.

ASICS Nimbus is the shoe that gave me PF. I wore them for my first Sarasota half, then could never put them on again without pain.

Currently, I'm running in purple ASICS Cumulus VIII. They were my shoe in my first WDW half, the second Sarasota half and both Minnies. I did the second WDW half in Saucony Grid Triumph 3 and had a LOT of problems, but that was with brand new orthotics and shoes I'd only been using for short runs. I'm planning to try the 4's for the full...best cushion I've found so far.

DD14 runs in FILA's for the wicked high arch support and cushion. I've tried the Testament and had some hip problems, but she's got Providence now that have slightly less arch that I'd like to try.

Jen...interesting comment from your pod. I've been wondering that myself...does having custom orthotics negate the need for shoes with arch support? I'm still hoping some day the PF will magically disappear and I'll be able to get by on shoes with good arch support.

I am a walker with very high arches and narrow heels. My local running store, FrontRunner, is awesome and helped me find what was just right for me - the ASICS Cumulus with a special lacing techinique to keep my heels from slipping. My husband, son, sister and niece have all adopted the lacing with their various shoe brands and all love it.

I am on my 4th pair of Cumulus :goodvibes I had heard so much about the Nimbus, that I decided to "upgrade" and got the worst shin splints of my life in a 4 miler .:confused3

Bless Frontrunner for being the distance athelete's friend - I took the shoes back, explained what had happened, and walked out with a new pair of Cumulus and a credit to my charge card for the price difference. I know people who swear by the prices at mail order, but please support your local speciality store when you can. They  and understand you, no matter what your skill level. :woohoo:

I'm wearing NB 1222's thru 2 half marathons and too many miles to figure out now LOL I'll be replacing them in the next month or so with hopefully the new model and fingers crossed they work because as I think Vic said even minor changes can be big.

My prior shoes (2 different year versions) were Brooks Ariel and for me the arch was too much especially in my right foot.

Here is a pic of my shoe collection. On the left is the Asics Foundation which I wore for the marathon. They were the second pair I bought and were too small. They left my big toe in pain.

The two pair of Asics Evolution II are good but may also be a little small.

The odd pair are Avia. They are two sizes bigger than the other shoes and I love them. A shoe fitter picked them for me with some custom made inserts which I also love.

Here ya go...

I have always overpronated, so when I started running, I went to a LRS, and had them fit me for shoes. I came home with a pair of Asics GT1800. While I have had to upgrade with the GT line, (currently on 2120) I have never put a different brand on my feet. I figure if it aint broke dont fix it.

You may want to try speed laces. I bought them for a quick transition for triathlon, but I love the feel of them. Your shoe feels secure, but never tight
