So yesterday I took the kids to the playground, I was pushing my little one on the swing and there was a girl next to us pushing a little one about 2 yrs old. She looked about high school age, it was hard to tell.
I just assumed it was her kid.

anyway, when we came over, she started talking to me. She said " Its all adults here with kids and me!", so I said, "oh she isn't yours?" pointing to the little girl.
she said "no its my sister,my mom is walking" ( there is a walking path all around the rec field that borders the playground)

so anyway, I said " oh sorry, its hard to tell and you just never know"

and then she proceeds to tell me how she is in 8th grade and there are 2 girls pregnant in her class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok, maybe I live in a bubble, but pregnant in middle school:scared1:

Yes girls in 8th and younger are having sex and of course could end up pregnant. This isn't anything new, and I'm sure happens way more often than we know about.

ETA My frieds brother got his girlfriend pregnant when they were 14 (that would be 8th grade), they gave the baby up but that was 15 years ago.

I'm 14 years older than my sister and when people would assume she was mine all the time (and this was 24 years ago!). And I was a very young looking 14 year old. One time I was grocery shopping with my mom and sister and while my mom was looking at the meat, I was entertaining my sister and a woman with a little boy came up and said,"she's so cute! Is she yours?" My mom thought it was hysterical!

I know of a 5th grader who got pregnant... (With a boy from her class. Not that that makes it better, but it wasn't assault from an adult.)

My 17 year old son have gotton those looks from ladies when he is with his 2 year old brother. Sometimes I ignore them, other times I tell them they could relax since they are brothers.

My niece was 16 when her brother/my nephew was born. It got to the point where she wouldn't hold him in public cause of the comments and looks she would get.

When I was in 7th grade a long time ago, I had a girl in my class who was in 8th grade but should have been in 9th or 10th (don't remember). She proceeded to tell me and a few other girls about her second abortion. Same guy, figured they would have learned what caused it the first time. I ran into her probably 10 years ago, she ended married to that guy. Odd.

I had a friend get pregnant when she was in the 8th grade... her mom made her have and abortion.

But then she turned around and got pregnant again in 11th grade.

With the same guy!

She ended up having that baby.

I went to Catholic school from 5-8 grade, so kissing a boy was risky business in my eyes.

When I got to high school, in public school, I was SHOCKED that so many people were having so much sex! :scared1: It definately happens... in good AND bad areas. I went to a GREAT school district!

When my husband was in residency (15 yrs ago) he delivered a 13 yr old! (Well, she turned 14 by the time she delivered but STILL!)

Oh you poor thing! he he...got news for you...just as many of those good little Catholic girls and boys were doing it too, they were just sneaky about it! ;)

I went to catholic school until middle school. What this girl was telling us (me) was pretty shocking.

We had one girl that got pregnant (that I knew of) and delivered, in high school. The thing that made it really odd was that in home ec we (girls only) had to watch a video of child birth. She was so upset by this, that she got sick during it.

The first pregnant classmate I encountered was when I was in 7th grade -- in 1974. It's been happening for awhile.

My sister who was 12 when I was born was often given responsibility for watching over me when I was a tot, mostly when she was about 14-15 yo. She HATED it because people in public places would sneer at her and make snide remarks.

Of course, I have the opposite side of the same problem -- at least one person a week tells me that I have a lovely granddaughter. (Nope, the 2 yo is my child, thanks.)

I had quite a few friends pregnant at 15/16 and a cousin had twins at 14, very possible. My sis is 12 years younger than me and in early elementary I went to her school events (I was 17 and I look young) and it was assumed more than once that I was her mama.

My children are 22, 21, 20, 19 and 6. When the older ones were in their teens, they hated it when people would give them attitude thinking they were the parents. My daughter eventually had a shirt airbrushed that said "Little Sister" for our now 6yo.:goodvibes

My good friend in a social worker. All she works with are teen moms. Her latest actually is in school with her 12 year old. The Mom is thrilled that she is going to be a grandma!

The things I hear about.:scared1:

My DH's sisters were about 14 when they had their first kids - the older sister was forced to give the baby up for adoption and then the other sister ran away so she didn't have to give the baby up.

sheesh, I should change my post title to NOT so shocking information at the playground

when I was in middle school and high school, only 1 girl got pregnant, ( that we knew of) it was in high school.

yesterday was the first time I heard of any pregnant girls around here like that. I am sure it is happening more and more.

how do we stop it? can we stop it? I guess just educating our kids on the subject.

No, we can't stop it. Unless we stop puberty from happening! Seriously. Boys (and girls) will always want it, and (most) girls will always want to make their boyfriends happy. It's a shame... :sad2:

Have to share this one....

I was 20 and DB#1 was 18 when DB#2 was born. Every once and a while, DB#1 and I would take DB#2 out to the mall - DB#2 just loved the lights and sounds and watching the people. Anyway, we're walking around with DB#2 in his stroller when someone stops us to tell us that he's just soooooo cute and he looks just like me!!! Well, I must have had some naughty juice that day or something cuz I just smiled and said "Thanks. Yeah he looks just like my dad!" PAUSE..... :rotfl: :rotfl2:

*hands over ears*

LALALALALAAALALALAAA!!! NOT LISTENING LALAALAALALAAAA!!!!

My DD is 14 and I **know** she has a good head on her shoulders, but I also remember what it was like to be a teenager... :scared1:

I'm not that old (32) but no one I knew was getting any tail in 8th grade. While I guess I would have been able to figure it out I would have stood there with a puzzled look on my face if given the chance.
