Shocking information at the playground!!

So yesterday I took the kids to the playground, I was pushing my little one on the swing and there was a girl next to us pushing a little one about 2 yrs old. She looked about high school age, it was hard to tell.
I just assumed it was her kid.

anyway, when we came over, she started talking to me. She said " Its all adults here with kids and me!", so I said, "oh she isn't yours?" pointing to the little girl.
she said "no its my sister,my mom is walking" ( there is a walking path all around the rec field that borders the playground)

so anyway, I said " oh sorry, its hard to tell and you just never know"

and then she proceeds to tell me how she is in 8th grade and there are 2 girls pregnant in her class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok, maybe I live in a bubble, but pregnant in middle school

I was a school nurse in a middle school for a couple years and I can tell you, you would be SHOCKED at what some of these kids write in their journals. All about their weekend "escapades". Some of these kids were veeerrrry active. Last year I had a 14yo 8th grader go into pre-term labor at school. when I called her mom to pick her up, mom argued with me that the girl *couldn't* be in labor--because her first baby wasn't premature!WHAT? Oh, yeah. She had her first baby at age 12--by the same scumbag who knocked her up the second time. Yep, her baby daddy was 27 Needless to say, we sent the girl to the ER and the baby daddy was picked up by the police, charged with statutory rape (as mandated reporters, we are required to report any form of child abuse. The girl's mom was FURIOUS, because you know "He's a good man. He takes care of OUR kids, pays OUR rent, drives US around, etc." I don't know if the mother was charged, but I bet she was. That poor girl doesn't stand a chance.)

I'm not that old (32) but no one I knew was getting any tail in 8th grade. While I guess I would have been able to figure it out I would have stood there with a puzzled look on my face if given the chance.

I'm a smidge younger than you, and I knew a *lot* of people getting it on in middle school! I"m suprised none of them got pregnant then... they waited until high school.

Ten years ago my dad taught at an inner city high school. 90% of the girls who graduated from that school had had a baby. He met many of the families and the average age between mother and daughter was about 11-13 years. One family had 6 generations (all female) living at home. The oldest wasn’t even 70 yet.

The most horrifying thing I’ve heard was a few months ago. A classmate told our class about a problem at her internship site. She had gone to check on one of her students who went to the bathroom abut 10min earlier. She walked in on the girl (and a boy not from her class) performing sexual acts. The girl was 6 y.o.

We are a small-town and apparently we had our own pregnancy pact!

My class of 2011 [now Juniors] during Freshman year we had 13 pregnancies. Apparently the class of 2012 wanted to break our record and tried to get past 13. They got 12.
I think that is sick and wrong.

Also, what is the irony [and I have photographic proof here] that these teens have had a baby and yet still party and drink and illegally smoke?

In 1975, when I delivered my second child (yeah-I know-I'm old) I met a little girl in the communal sitz bath who had delivered.

She had just turned 11.

When my husband was in residency (15 yrs ago) he delivered a 13 yr old! (Well, she turned 14 by the time she delivered but STILL!)

HuH? I thought it was 9 months from beginning to delivery !! Bet the mother was relieved.

Although there wasn't anyone pregnant (that I knew of) in my class until they were sophomores in HS, there were a lot of people having sex. Maybe even more people doing everything but sexual intercourse.

I went to a public school but about half of my close friends went to a nearby catholic school and from what they told me, it was worse there.

And in MS, some of my friends were doing "things" under the table in class, I am an unfortunate eye witness of this in my science class. Ew.

When I was in middle school there were at least 2 girls who carried babies to term. That was in the 1980s. When I was in high school they didn't allow the pregnant girls to stay in the regular school - they got sent to some other campus once they started to show, so it was hard to know how many girls it was happening to.

DS is in 8th grade now. About this time last year one of the girls in the school band told the kids she was pregnant, but they didn't believe her. Lo and behold, she showed up at a football game in the Fall about ready to deliver. I don't know what she did with the baby. Last week at parent/teacher conferences the Drama teacher and I were just chatting and she mentioned that a student pulled her aside (not this year, but in the past couple of years) and told her she was pregnant. That girl had the baby and kept it.

The high school I attended (45 years ago!) has been renovated and now includes a birthing room - no joke!'

When I used to be a nanny (age 18-24) I was always surprised how it was so much easier for people to assume I was a teen parents as opposed to a care-giver. I was also very young looking, so I always looked several years younger than my true age.

I remember at a playground one Saturday I just had the 3 yr old. We were playing there while the older girl was at Brownie Scouts. There was a playgroup of moms there who gave me the nastiest looks! Lily went to play with another little girl whose mom soon came over to get here. 5 minutes later this girl comes back saying how she isn't allowed to play with Lily. This mom kept her kid away while the others didn't care. Later on I was getting Lily some water when the mom of the first little girl muttered quietly to me about 'how horrible it is for young girls to have babies, the babies don't even have a chance in life'. This one mom was just crazy.

I didn't say anything, if she wanted to be nasty that was her issue. However, i was just flabbergasted! I was Lily's NANNY! She looked *nothing* like me.

This isn't new if more prevalent now. When I was in high school I vaguely knew a girl that had three kids by the time she was 18. And no, she wasn't married or even seriously dating anyone.

When my DS14 was in 6th grade, there was a girl in his class who "supposedly" had an abortion. I say supposedly, because I don't know if it was true or talk, but it was all over the school and several parents were talking about it.

My sister had a child in the 8th grade. It was a shock to us but it was a blessing in disguise.
Her daughter turned 40 in January. She's also a Stanford grad and an investment broker. She now takes care of the mother who gave up everything to have her.
