Shocking Confession

I have a confession to make. I love Kidani!!! Here is why I am shocked!

A couple of years ago, I lurked on the DVC operations board for months, contemplating our DVC purchase. After months of research, charts, graphs, and pro's and cons lists, our family decided on purchasing a Beach Club DVC through resale. We used Jaki and **** (god bless them) and got ourselves a modest contract at Beach Club Villas for a very good price. The BLT was rumoured to come out soon, and AKV was being sold, but I poo pooed them both, afteralll I had visited both resorts (well contemp and the AKL I guess) in past trips, and neither of them stood out to me.

Actually, I remember writing threads on the operations forum exactly why I did not want AKV or even BLT if it came :rolleyes1

So fast forward a few years later, and we have enjoyed a few stays at the BCV, a couple of the other dvc resorts, and the BLT over christmas. I have enjoyed them all. A few weeks ago, I took my daughter on a quick trip, and we stayed at Kidani. I fell in love!

The staff at Kidani were amazing - we checked in late because of a huge plane delay, and we were hours late for our Sanaa ressie, the front desk called down and confirmed we could still go, even though it was 9 pm and they dont seat after nine. They sent us down to eat, and when I came back, they had everything ready for us ( a long story, a complicated ressie, had to link a cash one with a dvc stay, blah blah)

Everytime I went to the front desk or the concierge, the staff bent over backwards for us, and knew their stuff (Yes mrs A, you can certainly buy a single waterpark ticket with the dvc discount -- something beach club concierge said - nope, cant do it!) One of the managers always seem to be in the lobby making sure that guests were happy when checking in and checking out. He overheard me asking about the Keys to the Kingdom tour, shot over, dialed a number, and within minutes I was booking it. You know, I really think the managers direct the style of hospitality at each of the resorts, and at Kidani - I was super impressed how visable they were. And the staff seemed happy, proactive and very pleasant to deal with!

Our room, although not super close to the lobby, was great - I knew there could be long hallways, but the savannah view was amazing, and the rooms were immaculate and gorgeous-- I am sorry, but in the three BCV stays, all of my rooms were in need of repair, things not working or just dingy and old looking. Even the blt had cupboard doors hanging off the hinges on our stay, and the materials used here seemed to be (in my opinion) cheap at the blt, but it looks glam from a distance. AKV not only appeared luxurious, but on closer inspection was very well done (IMO) I understand in 15 years, perhaps the AKV will look dingy as the BCV, but is it ever nice now!

Sanaa was great - what a meal! A nd Jiko is hands down my most fav restaraunt- fantastic.

And the buses, the transportation - woohoo! First to be picked up, first to be dropped off, and mostly goes directly to the theme park - who knew a delux could have great bus transportaion?? WAAAAYYY better then the beach club, stopping at 3 or 4 resorts, and always inconsistent -- now grant it, you can walk to epcot, and the boat to the studios is great, but a giant pita to go anywhere else. Kidani buses appeared to come at so frequently as well, I found it no hassle at all going on the bus!

And the overall feel of Kidani- the art is outstanding, and I loved the fact that much of it was not under glass. I would watch young childrent walk up and gently touch some of the carvings, it was amazing to them (and to me as well), and the views as you walked down the halls constantly amazed me. The lobby is so lovely, and the laterns which appear constantly lit on the outside just beckoned me home.

Now, all of this is subjective I realize, and based on my experience and personal preferences. I guess the learning curve is, although you can research and try and make the best decision from afar, nothing beats actually staying at the different resorts to find what pulls your heartstrings! DVC IS Magic, and like they say, there is a resort for everyones taste!

So now I am considering selling off my BCV contract, and buying at AKV. My current point contract is too big to keep, what I would love is two contracts, one for Kidani, and a smaller one for the beach club. I forsee split stays in my future, so I can stay at both places! I may lose a little, but I like Kidani that much!! Just thought I would share my experience!

Glad you like it. :thumbsup2 You should sell everything and stay there only-I dont think the cost would be that bad as BCV may get you a liitle more than another AKV contract will cost you, esp for a place you like that much better than the rest.

Agree completely! AKV was the one place I was least interested in staying because everyone says it is so far from everything. Stayed there for the kids and loved it!!! We rent a car and just loved the covered parking. The rooms were nice an big and loved the 2nd bathroom in the 1BR as well as the extra sleeping space with the pull-out chair. While we really like BW for the ability to walk to epcot and the studios, AKV are a surprising favorite.

Hey Jade1, did you take that picture in your signature?

Funny, AKV is our home resort but we did not stay there last trip. We stayed at BCV (which I loved for SAB and Epcot access). We had dinner at Boma one night and decide to make the trek over to Kidani to check it out. We hung out in the lobby listening to the drummers for a bit and checked out the gift shop. I walked up to a CM at the front desk and explained we were new members and Kidani was our home resort. He practically leaped over the desk and offered to give us a tour! He took us into a 1BR Savannah view and all I could could say was "Wow! Why didn't we stay here??!?!". He laughed and said "yes, why didn't you?"! The room was in superior condition and I loved the decor. So warm and inviting. Sooooo... now we have our next trip booked at Kidani! Can't wait. :thumbsup2

:goodvibesAKV is surprisingly a favorite for us too! Resort amenities trump location for me. AKV just seems to have more of what we like, and does it all with some of the lowest points in the system. It really makes it hard to stay at some of the others.

The parking is excellent, access to counter service and 3 TS restaurants, lots of mug stations, nice pools, community hall and plenty of scheduled activities, always nice cm's to speak to and learn, full recreation facilities, good transportation, double sinks in the villas (even the value rooms have double vanities) is the clincher for me!

Cool! I am taking my son there for his 16th Birthday trip. He wanted BCV but there was no availability. I thought AKV was settling but I guess that will not be the case. Thanks!:thumbsup2

AKV is not my home resort but I wish it was.....badly. I feel like it is my home away from home, and I missed it terribly when I had to stay at my home resort. OP-don't you wish you could trade with someone else who wants your home resort?

I think you just helped make up my mind for where I want to book for Nov. 2011. We have BLT booked for Dec. 2010 to check it out, and have stayed at all the other DVC's so AKV it shall be!! Sounds wonderful! Love to check out the new resorts.

I've said it before and I'll say it again -
We love AKV for the unique experience and quality and BCV for the location! Both are great for food options too!

It's funny you say this....... I always liked AKV. We bought last year when we were down there, a CM in Hollywood Studios got talking to us and twisted our arm to take a tour of BLT but when he knew we were close to the end of our stay and was visiting AK the next day, he set us up with a guide on-site at AKV. Hence the first resort we took a look at was AKV and I just loved it. Of course, they were selling BLT at the time and before we left, we took a quick look at BLT as well. DH loved BLT. On our first trip, we ensured we split our stay between the 2 resorts, but due to airfares, we ended up adding days on both ends, hence ended up visiting 4 resorts. Now, we know we love the 2 - DH loves BLT, I love AKV and so do my girls. I guess these 2 will be included in all our trips from now on.

There is something very special about the AKV's CMs. They make you feel welcome and treat you like a guest to their home.

Yes, I guess it IS shock. I fully expected to feel this way about the BCV's, and then I wondered if I would feel that way about the BLT, but I didnt.

Thats not to say I did not enjoy my stays at either of those resorts, I did, I really liked them. Its just Kidani must be where my heart lies. And that comes as a shock for me, because on paper, I did not think I would like it!!

I wonder how hard it is to get a 1 bedroom at 7 months out at akv?

Or maybe I should look into point transfers, like could I trade points with an akv person for my bcv on occassion?

hmmmm- off to read the trade board stuff!

We are not DVC members, but we rent points frequently. Our favorite of all resorts is AKV/AKL. We "had" to stay at OKW for 4 nights a few weeks ago, and it sure wasn't "home" for us. Can't wait to get back to our beloved AKV!

AKV- Kidani is my DS#1 -16yo- FAVORITE resort. What a nice birthday present.

We fell the same way about Kidani. We are staying at OKW in 8 days because I planned an impromptu trip and unable to book AKV and I think my kids would rather stay at AKV but its still Disney. I booked this trip only about a little over a month ago.

I think AKV although popular is still available at 7mths. Why not add on and keep your BCV if you can?

I was able to book a 1bdrm/savanna view at Kidani for mid-May at 7 months out. so it is possible. Like other resorts, it will depend on time of year you want to go.

We also enjoyed our stay at Kidani in May. Very relaxing, so much space in a 1-bdrm, the views, etc etc etc

Seems like most of you favor Kadani over Jambo. Our thoughts were the opposite, we really like the feel of Jambo and quick access to Boma, Jiko, and Mara. If you were not renting a car would you choose Jambo?
If not, why Kadani?
Thanks

We stayed at the AKL in 2003 and loved it. We had always wanted to buy into the DVC but there was always a slight hesitation. When they started building Kidani Village we new it was right for us. We took our first trip home last October and we are looking foreward to spending the next 40 years there:)

We stayed at Kidani in March and loved it. Our only issue was that we had to go over to Jambo for food and that really wasn't major problem. Buses were never a problem, either.

One of the things I loved the most was how peaceful and quiet it is there. I felt like I could truly relax.
