Shocked how much I liked OKW!!!

We just returned from an 8-night stay at OKW. We stayed here once previously in a studio (Feb '04) for a brief 4-night stay and really liked it. However, after reading all the problems people were having recently, I was sooo nervous about what we were going to encounter this trip. I'm happy to report that we had an amazing vacation, with friendly CMs (even at our midnight check-in!), the grounds were gorgeously in bloom with flowers, and our 2-BR was in wonderful shape. I really looked hard to see if there were any issues with the room....just to see if I could find anything. I can honestly say there was nothing wrong with our accommodations! Everything was clean and neat....including the bathrooms, and it looked like we had a new refrigerator. On our cleaning day, the housekeeper even made up DD's air mattress in the master bedroom, and tucked in her stuffed animal and AG doll!! (she was supposed to sleep on the sofa in the living room, but was too nervous to sleep "that far" away from us!!) We were in bldg 11, with a wonderful view of the 8th hole on the golf course. Being right across from the HH and pool area was fantastic. We were checking out the same day they were blocking off the parking spaces for paving, so we missed that mess completely.

DH was so impressed, that he wants to either sell our BCV points to get (more) OKW points, or do an add-on. We have really fallen in love with this resort for it's relaxed and lush atmosphere. After the frenzy of the parks, it's a nice respite.

But....I promise not to spread it around! :thumbsup2

" I guess in a nutshell our perfect resort would be a luxury hotel with condo type rooms." Quote....Diatcher

That is what SSR is.... minus the room service. It is more upscale than OKW. I loved SSR (and OKW) and I always thought I would have liked the hotel type better too. Infact BCV was sold out right before I bought (1 or two weeks) and at the time I was disappointed (didn't know about resale). Now that I have stayed at them all, I think that I like the condo type better. That said I think that they are all great and wouldn't complain about any of them.:cloud9:

Glad to hear you had a great time! :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone, just wanted to share a positive experience at a DVC Resort. The negative reviews get the most play here so maybe this will offset the negative a little.

We've been staying at least 3-4 weeks per year at Old Key West since 1992 and couldn't imagine life without it---it's our second home. Glad you enjoyed it!!

I have read that there are safes in the studio rooms and other places I have read did not mention a safe in the studio rooms. Can anyone enlighten me?
Yes, there are safes in the studio rooms at OKW.

Daitcher,
Glad you enjoyed your stay at OKW and thanks for the report. I agree with you that it's a disappointment about no takeout at Olivia's. I really feel OKW could do better in this dept. Wonder if writing them would help. Goods To Go closes at 10 pm and I feel it should stay open until at least 11 pm. Other than this, we absolutely love it there.
Edited to add : We use this restaurant when we want room service (don't know why OKW can't offer that either) : http://www.giordanos.com/
They have really good food (pizza, salads, soups, sandwiches) and deliver right to your villa. Thought you might want to keep them in mind for future trips.

I noticed on pg. 24 of the Spring Vacation Magic that it says, "In order to provide the best service and food quality for all guests, Olivia's at Disney's Old Key West Resort no longer offers its menu items at Good's to Go." What a bunch of BS!!

Wow! I didn't know this....I'm going to tuck this info away for our next trip, thanks!! I have to say the lack of food options is definitely an issue at OKW. We don't do a lot of sit-down meals, but the menu at Goods is very limited.

I must say, I agree.....I wish there were more options and I don't get this statement in the Vacation Magic either. Pretty weak if you ask me.

You're welcome Sammy. I can't help but think how much money OKW loses from us (and other guests) because of their lack of food options. While I love Olivia's, I think at the very least they should offer take out service considering they don't offer room service.

My family has stayed at VWL, SSR, and OKW. We all agreed that OKW was the absolute best, with VWL a close second. Nothing can beat the themeing at VWL, but OKW is soooo relaxing.

We are staying at a GV in OKW this Novemember.

Jim, We stayed at an OKW GV in November (Food and Wine Festival) and it was wonderful!!!! I had requested to be near HH and ended up in Building 49 which is about as far from HH as we could possibly have been and still be at OKW!!! But I am now a Southpoint area convert...loved it and have actually requested that area for our trip next week (so who's taking bets that we will get location close to HH instead???!!!)! Anyway, hope your November trip is just as magical as ours was...great time of the year to be at WDW and OKW!

LOL, I love South Point too, but we always seem to get HH area. Actually, buildings 53-56 are the best SP buildings. We like 45 and 46 too.
