Mods, please feel free to post this if i've put it in the wrong place.

Ever since I became a member, every few days or so I hope on the RAT just to see what is available at the 7 month mark. We live driving distance from Disney World and my job is very flexible with time off, so if a resort I havent tried or a hard to get room category pops up, ive been known to just grab it. (one day I got 3 nights in an AKL value studio, I still pinch myself over that one).

Anyway, Over the past couple of weeks, I've been checking and EVERYTHING is gone at 7 months. Literally everything. Even Saratoga Springs, which happens to be my home resort, is booked up. Is this coronavirus related? It doesnt make sense. Someone explain this to me!!!

Its called 2+ months of resorts being closed.

This is why Disney can't make huge exceptions to point banking. Its going to be like this for a while. Possibly not everything but there is possibly going to be a gridlock as people look to lock in at least something.

Yes, many people are rescheduling their March/April/May/June trips for November/December. The longer the resorts are closed, the tighter availability will be for the next year or so. All use years except April and June were still within their banking deadline so although many people are losing points, even more will be able to simply reschedule their trips.

I think it definitely has an impact because you have people who are trying to reschedule what was lost,

In addition, right now, 7 months out is the busiest time for DVC anyway, so between both, it’s going to be tough,

I moved a May trip to end of October the other day. What I got was gone the next day. But, had the resort not closed, I would not have been booking that October trip.

Get used to it, its going to be this way for a year or two. Over 1/6 (if not more) of this years availability was removed from inventory in essence, and that is a lot of points that have to get used somewhere

The fall is a season when many things fill long before 7 months out normally. The coronavirus has probably added some of those who have had to cancel their reservations to attempt to move to fall and getting what is still available. There is also the factor of kind of room you are actually seeking. Studios everywhere are almost all gone but in October (only 6 months out) and early Nov you can still get cabins, bungalows, SSR 1BRs, 2BRs, Treehouse villas and GVs, and OKW 2BRs and 1BRs for almost all such dates,

I moved a May trip to mid-August and had enough available in two bedrooms to be content. I was able to see availability for 7 consecutive nights at SSR (including studios and treehouses) and OKW. The cabins and bungalows were available but well out of our points range for that many nights. There was a lot more available if I wanted to switch resorts a few times.

It’s not great but it’s more than enough to make me happy for switching at just over 4 months out. Does it make up for giving up our Riviera reservations for November and December into January? No. But it meets my current need to take my family away before the new academic year begins.

I just went on the website, and according to the calendars it looked like Saratoga Springs was available for almost every category for almost all nights from June through February. It would not let me book more than 7 months out, but it looked like I could book any room type I wanted before that, although I did not try to complete the reservation process.
