I'm in the medical field and so this was the first thing that I wanted to know about...(sorry a little pathetic I know-I go on vacation and still need to know about medical facilities *L*) They do have ALS (advanced life support) equipment on board. Don't quote me...but I believe they have like 1 ICU bed (with heart monitor, Oxygen, medications etc) I know there was more but I can't remember right now-have been up since 0345 this AM-brain is not functioning right now (sorry)
I'll see what else I can find.

My view is strictly as a patient comparing with other doctor visits throughout my life. I was on one of the Norwalk virus cruises and took ill and "got" to visit the medical facilities. They struck me the same as any doctor's office I had visited over the years. The staff was very professional and courteous, which is saying a lot given that they had probably been up for 72 hours straight by then! I got sick on the last day of a week long cruise where over 200 passengers took ill, so you know they had a busy week. By all accounts, they acquitted themselves nicely, doing the best they could in a tough situation.

My daughter was on the Magic February 2002 and twisted her ankle.. she hobbled down to the infimary to find it was closed, so she hobbled up to guest services, they told her to go back to her room and they'd have a wheel chair brought up for her (why they couldn't do it right then I don't know) so she hobbled back to her room and they came and got her.

By the time she got back to the infirmary, tons of people were there (mostly seasick) and she had to wait, even though she technically was first... one thing she learned though~put the brake on the wheel chair!! she was rolling back and forth, but couldn't put her foot down to stop!! $175 later, they wheeled her back to her room with an aircast and pain killers. She said they were very nice doctors and nurses (assistants) etc. and looked like they were equipped for just about any type of an emergency.
