Shipping stuff to Disney ... how much is too much?

Just wondering, for those of you who shipped stuff there for your weddings/VRs, how many boxes did you send and did you have any trouble getting everything delivered to you?

TIA! :goodvibes

I didn't ship stuff but I did drop off 3 medium boxes off to Franck's 5 days before the wedding. When I went into the room to put the boxes away there were HUGE boxes from another wedding in there so I'm sure they're used to it.

Okay, that's good to know! I guess I need to add this to my list of things to talk to my planner about (once I get one, LOL). We're just trying to decide what's easier ... driving down with boxes or shipping everything and flying. I just don't want to give anyone there headaches dealing with my stuff, but it sounds from what you said like it's common to stash stuff before the event. :thumbsup2

We shipped a fairly large box to our hotel FedEx and it cost less than $30. It had all our ceremony accessories in it and the favors (38 pairs of Mickey ears!). It was easy to do and sure beat schlepping it on the plane!

Although you can bring items to Franck's a few days before the wedding, they will not let you ship boxes of stuff to your wedding planner any earlier than that.

OK, that helps too! :goodvibes I'm thinking that maybe we'll ship our stuff to the hotel, assemble whatever needs assembling, and then take it over to Franck's the day before the VR. I guess I'm just worried that I might be shipping too much (we're doing our own centerpieces and aisle runner).

I guess it just depends on how much it is worth to you not to have to drive stuff down yourself. :cutie: I am a notorious penny-pincher, but for our wedding trip I allowed myself to spend more on conveniences to make things run smoother and BOY was it worth it to me! :teeth:

I agree with lurky here, bc I'm also a penny pincher. I drove sp we packed everything into the car bc shipping would have just been that extra $$ we could have used for gas, lol. By the time the wedding rolled around we were trying to save as much as we could bc we didn't want to spend needlessly.

Is there a reason you'd rather ship than drive it down?

One part of me feels exactly like this! But the other part is wondering if we just will have too much stuff to reasonably ship.

I'm just not all that fond of the making the drive. It's 19-1/2 hours one way from here, which necessitates an overnight stop at a random expressway hotel, and some of the ones we've encountered when making the trip in the past have been AWFUL (like ants all over, trains outside the windows, weird chemicals that gave me a rash so bad we had to check out after an hour and sleep in the parking lot cuz it was so late and we were exhausted!). It's such a crapshoot when you don't know where you'll end up for the night, you know? ;)

If you work for a larger company, you might get discounts on UPS/FedEx shipments. I know I can utilize my work UPS account for personal shipments and have it charged to my credit card. That way I get the negotiated rate.

That's a good idea! :thumbsup2

My dh ships a TON at work with both of those companies and I'm pretty sure he's mentioned in the past that we could do that. I'll have to have him look into it to see what's possible. Thanks for the suggestion! :goodvibes

I shipped two large boxes via FedEx ground to my Disney resort. The box contained the welcome bags and contents plus some other things. It cost a lot less than I expected especially as one of the boxes I could hardly lift :rotfl: I shipped them on Tuesday for our Saturday arrival. They arrived before we did and then I called the front desk after we got in our room and bell services delivered them to the room while we were out.

I put a label on each box with the name on our reservation, the reservation number and arrival date. This was in addition to the FedEx label.

I also shipped by FedEx ground our wedding atire to Carol Allens for steaming with no problems - however I insured this box so it cost more.

I will look at the cost for each when I get home tonight and let you know the weight and cost.

That would be WONDERFUL!! Thanks so much! :flower3:

I'm honestly going to have 4-5 (maybe 6 boxes of stuff to ship). One box is for the t-shirts we had made, another for the ears we are purchasing, another is for our flowers (silk flowers), and unless we use massive boxes, I'm going to guess on 2-3 boxes for the rest of our favors (this isn't including shipping the dress/veil/crinoline to Carolyn Allen's).

It's a 24 hr drive for us, so shipping is the only way.

Now that sounds a lot like what I think we'll be looking at. We could easily put it all in the back of my Vue, but in order to have room, our 18yo son would have to fly down instead of driving with us. :headache:

As promised here are my costs - I think that the size of the box may also be a factor but it was not on my receipts, sorry.

1. FedEx Ground 2 Day Shipping to resort - 24.20 lbs = $17.63 no insurance
2. FedEx Ground 2 Day Shipping to resort - 33.70 lbs = $22.75 no insurance
3. FedEx Ground 2 Day Shipping to Carol Allens - 22.40 lbs + $2000 insurance = $41.20

We purchased the boxes beforehand from FedEx.

Hope this helps!

It helps immensely! Thank you so much for taking the time to post the info for me!! :goodvibes
