Not sure if this is the correct thread for this.

I read that it cost more to ship packages home - packages of Disney goods.

We traditionally buy Christmas presents at World of Disney and ship these home. I read that the charges are now based on the total amount of sales, not on where shipping to.

Has anyone experienced this at WOD, lately?

I read that in the allears.net newsletter. I'm going this weekend, so will try and ask. I was planning to ship some things back for Christmas presents for DS without him knowing. If the charges are as high as the woman reported, I am not going to be doing that.

Reggie thanks. The woman reported that was from her resort. I hope WOD is different.

Looking forward to hearing your results.

Have a wonderful trip. We've still got a month to go.

does the all ears note apply to the store and not the resort front desk?

last year I had the stores package items for me.

I borrowed the packing tape from the front desk, asked for a box from the gift shop, packed the box myself and then the front desk shipped for me. A large box, ups ground (my choice) was $17.00.

I hope this process has not changed.

I've heard that if you are staying in one of the hotels that has a convention center attached that you get charged outrageously for shipping both incoming & outgoing. They apparently assume that all the guests staying there are convention people with expense accounts so they charge accordingly. I've never had any problems shipping from the hotel front desks myself other than a few CM's who acted extremely put out to have to deal with packages.

Hmmmm ... a "pack & ship" store right outside of WDW would be a good idea ... and profitable maybe. Anything less than $112 would be good! (That's what another thread said ALL EARS reported!)

Has anyone done this recently? Just looking for an up date. We're leaving to go to WDW just after Thanksgiving.

Thanks folks

I just returned a few days after the new shipping charges were in place. My mother and I pooled our purchases together so we could have them shipped home. We bought everything at WOD so we could use my 10% AP discount.

It is by dollar amount now and I don't know the entire run down but anything in sales $500 + (which we had) was $112 for shipping.

HTH.

The most recent All Ears newsletter says that it is cheaper to ship from the front desk than the gift shop.

I just returned from AKL yesterday. We ended up shipping home two boxes of stuff that we had bought. We had bought from several different stores and had it sent to our hotel. We ended up getting boxes from the gift shop and packing them, then going to the concierge desk and they shipped them home UPS for us. They asked us if we had a shipping preference. I just chose ground shipping because it was cheaper. One box weighed 13 pounds and the other was 21 pounds. I think the total cost for both was about $47.

Pretty outrageous, compared to their old prices. It's simply not worth it any more for most items, it seems. For instance, I'd like to purchase a scultputre or snow globe on my next trip, but $25 bucks to ship a $120 item is crazy.

I'm hoping the resorts still offer the service they did. Only problem is, you will be packing/taking responsibility for the stuff yourself as opposed to being able to call Disney, etc., if something arrives damaged.

I guess Disney doesn't want us buying as much stuff when we visit?

These shipping prices are crazy--do they still offer a discount to DVC members or free shipping for annual passholders? I can't remember which, but about 2 yrs ago they were doing one of these.

On a different note--I would always buy Christmas souveniers for people and then send them back home w/ a note like: Merry Christmas in (month) from your pal, Mickey Mouse! Guess I won't be doing that any more.

just wondering, would it be possible to call fexex or ups from your hotel and arrange shipping thru them?

they pick up from you in your hotel room, i believe you can arrange to have them bring you shipping supplies like a box, tape, you pay for the entire thing with your credit card.....

would that work?

either that or is there a fedex or shiping store close to WDW property and it might be more ecomical to pay for the cab back and forth and ship from the store.

i guess it depended on how much you had to ship.

In the past I have just asked the hotel gift shop for a huge box and tape and packaged up all my purchases myself. Then I went to the front desk where they had fedex labels filled it out and they shipped it off for me. I have done this at the All-Star Resorts and Port Orleans.

I posted earlier - and have also read a current tip from allears.net - you can still get boxes from gift shop, tape from hotel front desk, pack yourself and the front hotel desk will ship at normal shipping rates. - I wrapped the extra clothes we didn't need around items that I didn't want broken.

Anyone know why Disney has made the change? I mean people are really going to think twice about buying alot or buying big items with such outrageous prices to ship the stuff home? Geez, the Art of Disney stores will go out of business! How the heck are you supposed to get a big figure home?

I can't believe, even if they were losing some money on shipping, the mark up on souvies had to make up for it.

So I don't get the logic here...
What?...they WANT to sell LESS merchandise? :confused3

I shipped almost $250 worth of products from the kitchen store at DTD in April and I think the shipping was only around $20. I bought some heavy stuff too so I thought that was pretty good

I was there last week and didn't realize the shipping charges had gone up. I try to do most of my shopping at World Of Disney so I can get my 10% Disney Visa discount. My order total was $350 and I had to pay $76 for shipping!! I about _____:rolleyes1 . But I had also sent a box down ahead of time to our resort and when I shipped that home from POP it was 35# and it only cost $29.00 UPS ground. Way better than shipping from the store.

Sometimes I take an extra suitcase to bring items home in. You just have to watch your breakables.

Wow, am I glad you all posted this before our trip on Friday. We always do a similar "wait for World of Disney" shopping spree. Thanks for the info about packing it yourself at the hotel. Wonder how long it will be til they change that too? :confused3
