We are flying on an airline that does charge for bags(which most of them do these days) Has anyone shipped their luggage? How did you like it? Did you save money?

That is funny, because just the other day, I had off and I was watching one of the morning news shows, and they had a woman on who brought into the franchise for The UPS Store in NYC and they are beginning a new service to ship luggage.

They say they can be competitive with the airlines, which means you are still going to be paying close to, if not exactly what the airlines are charging. But you don't have to worry about getting your bags to the airport.

And AAA members get a 15% discount.

when using the magical express can we grab our luggage ourselves?how much time do we have to get to the bus?

Yes, you can stop at baggage claim and get your checked bags. Just be sure to leave off those yellow DME luggage tags though. Then you can take your bags to the bus with you. The driver will expect a tip for handling the bags though.
You are assigned a particular bus. The buses come and go...on no particular schedule. When you arrive at DME checkin, you will be sent along to the appropriate bus line for your resort. When the next bus comes along, you will board.

I priced out shipping luggage at one point (about a year ago) and it was significantly more expensive that checking it on the airline.

Also some hotels charge for package that are delivered prior to your arrival. Not all hotels hold packages for free.

I've heard about UPS too and was wondering if that maybe a good idea to use them. They have boxes you can get that will weigh less then a suite case. So you may get to take more items if needed.

AAA gets 15% off at UPS? That may work out nicely. :)

I've done it and it's worked out great. It saved me a little over the airline fee as I used my employer's UPS account(with his permission) and got his discount rate. Of course it also depends on how much stuff you want to bring. With two young kids, it was so pleasant not having to deal with anything other than our carry ons at the airport and not having to go to baggage claim.

I've never used this service but companies like luggageforward.com offer the service but they are more expensive.
