Shipping groceries

Just wondering how many people here ship groceries ahead of time and why.

Is it just a convenience thing to have the bulk of your food there when you arrive or is it cheaper for you to buy at home or online and ship it?

If you ship groceries, do you shop at your home grocery store and ship or do you use an online grocer like NetGrocer?

We just pack non-perishables that I have bought locally on sale in a box and have it go on the airplane with our suitcases. Then we can either get rid of the box or bring it home filled with souvenirs.
When we arrive at Orlando we make a grocery stop for perishables and more. We had great success at Winn-Dixie. They had many "buy one get one free" items.

We don't ship groceries. We shop at Publix once we get down there and often find it cheaper than the supermarkets up here.

Last month we faxed our grocery order to Albertson's (right off the highway on the way from the airport) the day before we left. DH double parked while I went to the service desk to pay for it and a man brought it out to the car. Total time: about 7 minutes! We were very happy with them and we did it for convenience. It worked out well too, because our flight got in later than expected so we would have been checking in around 5:30 and then having to go out to the grocery store. I would highly recommend them (there is no extra charge for this service).

Faxing an order seems like a good way to handle things, but how do you do it? Do they have a pre-designed form for you or do you just write down what you want. It would drive me batty having to list everything out without knowing what sizes and brands they offer, let alone being able to comparison shop and find the better value for my money.

No, there's no predesigned form to use, I just made a list. It did take a little time to sit down and figure out exactly how much we would need for one week's worth of breakfasts and a few lunches and dinners, plus snacks. Then I made my list and was specific on sizes as best as I could be. It required a lot of planning before the trip, but it paid off as we had hardly any food leftover at the end of the week. On previous trips we've just gone grocery shopping and end up buying things on impulse that we end up wasting. I called the store first and told them I was faxing my order so they knew it was coming. Oh, I was also specific on brands that I wanted and told them not to substitute, but they ended up having everything I wanted.

I have tried several methods and find Net Grocer the best way. Buying at home and shipping is pretty expensive and inconvenient. Even the cheapest shipping method is more expensive then Net Grocer. We always have a large group and we found that stopping and buying on the way to the Villas just takes too much time. Net Grocer has always worked out. We order all of our dry goods (food, paper products,diapers,etc) for a guaranteed Friday dleivery and when we check in on Saturday Morning it is deliverd to our room. We still stop on the way in and buy perishables and things netgrocer does not carry (milk, OJ, beer, soda, etc) ....Rich

Hi~

We will be at BCV in March and plan to use Tiffany Towncar from the airport. They allow a grocery stop of up to 30 minutes. I really like the idea of faxing ahead.

Could you post the Albertson's fax number? That would be a convenient stop, esp. if it is near the airport.
