Shipping formula?

I was reading one of the WDW travel books which mentioned shipping formula to your hotel before you leave. Has anyone done this? Thanks for any info about this.

I haven't done it but I would assume it's pretty costly to ship formula-it's heavy. I never flew on a vacation while my kids were on formula so I always just packed it in the car. hmmm, are you renting a car? If so, I would probably just buy it when I got there unless it's some hard to find brand. Good luck.

No. I never shipped it. When my DD was nearly 1 year old we went and just took one can with us. We also brought about 6 premade cans to bring in the parks (just in case). Didn't take up much room. I don't know why you would ship formula - you don't need a case of it for a week --- unless your kid is REALLY hungry!!! :rotfl:

I've never shipped it myself, but I have ordered formula, diapers, wipes etc.... from netgrocer.com and had it waiting at the resort

We use the liquid not the powder.

In that case then it must be very expensive just to purchase, let alone ship it. I know that one can of the premade formula was like a dollar a pop! Think about the powder for the trip - it's the same stuff and much less expensive. In fact we used the WalMart/Target/CVS brand - the generics in all those stores were EXACTLY the same - made by Wyeth - same nutrients and less than $15 for a can.

I'm sure that the OP has reasons for using liquid formula and is well aware of the cost difference. That wasn't the original question. Getting back to that....

We just returned from Pop and I shipped a box of baby food and supplies to our hotel by UPS about a week before our arrival. I sent the box to myself care of Pop Century resort with my reservation number and arrival date on the box. I live in IL and it cost $16 to send a 24 pound box via UPS ground.
We also ordered two cases of bottled water from Staples (BTW...this was awesome...we paid $11 for the water and free shipping). I called Pop ahead of time to make sure that it was okay to send myself a box to the hotel and to order the water and have it delivered to the hotel. The response from Pop was "you can ship whatever you'd like to the hotel."

Upon check-in, I was told that my box and the water were there. We headed off to the park shortly after arriving so we didn't pick the stuff up until later in the evening, which wasn't a problem for the hotel.

I have shipped formula to the resort. In June I brought my then 9 month old and I shipped down formula, 30 jars of baby food, diapers, sunscreen, wipes, etc., etc. I purchased 7 boxes of six 8 ounce cans ready to feed formula. It is expensive, but I would HIGHLY recommend this. I did not have to refridgerate it or warm it up. In the mornings I would just pack up a few empty bottles along with a few cans of formula. It didn't matter where we were - if the baby was hungry - I just popped open a can and fed him. There was some waste, but the convenience made up for it.

I did call Saratoga Springs ahead of time to make sure that this okay. I then shipped it UPS to myself in care of Saratoga Springs. The box that I shipped was 50 pounds and I believe it cost 28.00. It was too much worrying about flying with formula and glass baby food jars........this was definately the better option. It was a little costly, but to purchase these items at WDW would have cost me more than double. I think it was 3.00 for 8 ounces of formula and 1.00 per jar of baby food.

Everything arrived in perfect condition and they had it ready for me when I checked in. The convenience alone was great!

Good Luck in your decision!

I was just trying to help. If someone could save $100's of dollars a week for baby formula- why wouldn't you? It's the same thing. My daughter used it for months - we're cool. I just offered to help. It seemed that her question was concerning the cost of shipping. If you are trying to save money, then why would you waste it on premade formula?

Sorry...I didn't mean to come off snippy...we don't use formula, but I think that I read something recently about the liquid formula being easier for some babies to digest than the powdered stuff so I figured that maybe OP had an issue like that or that they had already made a family decision (for whatever reason) to use liquid formula despite the cost difference. The box that I shipped to Pop included a lot of organic baby food which costs more than conventional baby food. We have made a family decision to feed our daughter as much organic food as possible even though it costs more, but I still wanted to save as much money as I could by shipping jars that I can buy at a discount grocery store at home.

<<but I think that I read something recently about the liquid formula being easier for some babies to digest than the powdered stuff>>

you're right in that it's not the same thing. while it's the same product, the risk of bacterial contamination is very real with powdered supplies. the powder is not sterile. with liquid, it's sterile until you open it. so for preemies or other at risk babies....there are other circumstances too....it's the 2nd best choice (after human milk)

I appreciate your help, but my question was not about the cost of shipping but how does it work.

ahhh, how does it work. just get the address of the hotel, then ship the package to the hotel (fedex ground seems to be the best in terms of ground rates) per the hotel's addressing instructions which is usually for example:

Carribean Beach Resort
attn: Guest Susie Smith
4321 disney drive
disney central, FL 44444

Went to FedEx today about shipping and they said they do not ship liquid. Anyone have a problem shipping liquid through UPS? TIA

have you thought about the stores that deliver to your hotel? We will be taking our 20 month old and i am just taking the few basics to fly down. then i plan on using that wegoshop.com to deliver since we are not renting a car. I have never used it and thought i would give it a try. I dont wantto pack a suitcase full of food and diapers, snacks etc...

hope you have a great trip!!!

I haven't done it but my sil has and it was easy but pricey! You can ship yourself pretty much anything, just address it to the resort care of yourself with your check in date and reservation number. My sil also called the front desk the day prior to let them know a package was coming for her. It arrived the day she did and the front desk called and offered to have it brought up or she could come down and pick it up.

If you have trouble shipping the liquid maybe a grocery delivery would work. I highly recommend wegoshop.com - they were terrific. For a small fee they will do all the shopping you need and will shop at any store you wish as well as being brand specific. The information as well as all the pricing is on the website and they returned e-mail and phone calls promptly.
