One is an SUV and the other an Extended Cab Pick-up. Does anyone know of any companies that ship cars?

I am looking for DISer's that may have used a car transport company and was happy with the service. ::yes::

We talked of selling the vehicles here in MA and starting over with new cars in CA...but they are both recently paid off, have secured the titles to them and really do not want to start all over again with car loans. Both cars are in MINT condition hence a major reason for keeping them. :yay:

TIA! :goodvibes

I dont have any info on shipping cars...sorry...just wondering where in Cali you are moving too? Have a safe trip!

How are you moving your "stuff"? We've always shipped one of our vehicles with the company that is moving our belongings. Then driven the other one.

It isn't cheap or quick. We had a Jeep Cherokee shipped from Nashville to Los Angeles and it took 2-3 weeks before the truck finally showed up to pick up the vehicle in Nash and then delivered it to LA.

Why not just get those strapping young sons of yours to each drive one across country? 3 days tops. Just invest in radar detectors first... ;)

If there is, I would call the transportation office and ask for a list of shippers. I shipped a car to Germany for $875 , 10 years ago and it was here in less than 7 days. When I upgraded from an american car to a german car, I was going to ship the crappy Saturn back to the states for my mom to sell. It was going to cost thousands, no big bargain there. I would guess that with the current US economy and the cost of transportation that it may be cost prohibitive. Good luck on your move, my family live in CA for years, and our family motto was " Out of state by 98". The taxes and crime were too much for us.

I have no idea if this even comes into play, but make sure your cars will pass the CA emmissions. They have different rules out there I think.

Good luck & enjoy the move. We just came back from a 2 wk CA vacation.

I am not moving anything for one year. DH will be in Corporate Housing until further notice....could be up to one year. I am only taking clothes, some with me in two suitcases on the plane and some shipped UPS. I am keeping my MA home as DS is getting married 06/09 and I will be back and forth throughout the planning stages of the wedding. After the wedding, we will then put the house on the market and move.

Well I just got one quote right now...."Total Car Shipping" = $2550.00 for both cars. DH's company will pay the fee. DH will have a company car throught Sept 1st., so I figured get this set up for sometime in August. And of course I want my car!!!

Ahh, Kel, one DS is working in New Mexico for the Summer and the other DS is working fulltime here in MA. :( So they are no help.

Yikes, good call on that Jo, I never gave that a thought.

DH is already in CA and he just loves it. He has been there one month and says I will love it as well. First week he was there he drove over to DLC and called me on his cell so I could listen to the sounds of Disneyland, CA!!!

Did you and DH get to DLC???

why not put a hitch on one, and drive while towing the other one behind?

It sounds like your spouse has a good relocation package. I hope that Cali works out for your family, and of course the mouse house is only right down the street:)

Thanks for your reply, pr surfer, but DH is already in CA and I fly out July 1st. So right now I am planning to have them transported for me.

Yes, the relocation package is great. And of course the bonus in all this is our closeness to the MOUSE!!! :thumbsup2

Have you spoken with someone in HR at your husband's company? Our relocations are always handled by DH's company. They are the ones who arrange it for us. They might be able to point you in the right direction.

In many industries, there is the good. the bad and the ugly. In car shipping (which I've done many times), remove "the good" part and you'll understand what you are facing. Google the subject as much as you want and you'll quickly see that at best using any firm is at best a crap shoot, in terms of:

Any sort of credible schedule - few firms guarantee specific delivery dates.

Insurance against damage in shipping - if you want a full guarantee, expect to pay through the nose.

Customer service - any firm that returns a call quickly is rare.

Bottom line: if you really care about your cars, expect to pay $1,200 or more for closed truck and full insurance. Anything less and expect some problems.

Why don't you just find a fabulous, wonderful, lovely DISer to drive your cars to CA for you and then just move-in with you? I might have someone in mind! ;)

No, we were in Northern CA. While very beautiful, I was glad to come home & see green grass & trees. lol We were in San Francisco, Sausalito / Muir Woods, Sacramento area, Tahoe (where it was cold rain & hail) then down to Yosemite (beautiful!!) and flew out of Fresno.

It was a geocaching trip with sightseeing along the way. Lots of wildlife & outdoors.

Not sure who we used but we bought a truck from Texas and got it shipped to MA for about $1200

I moved a bunch of times back and forth across the country.

I had some excellent relocation packages. Standard procedure was for the moving company (somebody like United, Bekins, etc.) to drive it on the truck with my furniture and drive it off at the other end.

I never had a single problem. It also didn't put a mile on my car or cause any wear and tear. It was cheaper for the company to pay for transport than to give me a week off to drive across country and pay for gas, lodging, meals, etc.

That sounds about right. I received one quote today from "Total Car Shipping" = $2500.00 for 2 cars.

OT, tiggger, the new pic of the kiddos is awesome. I cannot believe how big they are now. :goodvibes

DH & I have done that many times in the past. The movers would drive the cars right on to the moving van.....but it is a different situation here as we are not moving an entire household just yet. Just, us, clothes and our cars.
