We want to ship a box with snacks to our resort (POP). How far in advance do you send it and by what method (UPS, Fed Ex)?

I've never sent anything from my home to a WDW but I have had on-line retailers send stuff there.

I don't think there's any problem if it gets there before you because they just put the stuff in a holding area. I just made sure that the parcel was adressed to me at the resort address. Beside my name, I had them indicate in parentheses that I was a guest and the date on which I was arriving).

In one case, the parcel was sent by US postal service and, in the other case, it was UPS.

We sent some cheerleading stuff to ASMusic through UPS. We sent it three days before check-in. You just have to find out the address and send it to them C/O... Everything worked out great. I,m kicking around sending bottled water and snacks to the Poly.

The bottled water will be heavy and make the postage pretty high. We're packing a box of snacks. I think I'll put my extra film and videotapes in there to, so I don't have to worry about them getting scanned.

I called WL (that's where we'll be staying) just to make sure it was alright to do this (didn't want them to already have a bad taste in their mouth about me before I even arrived). I talked with a very nice CM who said that as long as you put your name for the C/O and also put your date of arrival on the label, you should be fine. She gave me the correct mailing address to their resort and said to mail my package about 5 days before our arrival date. I'm going to probably use UPS. She said at WL there carrier is FedEX but that UPS would be fine.

Just for ideas.....I'm going to put in my package:

Charmin (my daughter has to have it, sensitive skin)
Kleenex
Clorox wipes
A night light
A sleep machine (I can't get to sleep sometimes without it/don't want to chance it)
washing detergent
scissors (for opening things that we might buy at grocery store, etc.)
batteries
Powerstrip (last year we ran out of electrical outlets to recharge everything)
Extra film and camcorder tapes
snacks
a few extra hangers for haning our shirts

I'm sure I'll think of some more things before May16th, but for now that's it.

I sent a package to myself in January (2005) with some food (pop, bottled water, crackers, some candy) and other items in it (toilet paper, nalgiene bottle, kleenex, etc). It worked great for me becuase I did not rent a car or hire a towncar...I took Mears. I would reccomend using UPS. I did UPS ground and it was $14.99 to send the package (it was 16lbs). I sent my package on Jan 13th and it was estimated to get to my resort on the 19th (my arrival date) it was not there when I arrived (I got there around 12:45pmish), but that night when I got back from the parks I had a message from the front desk and they brought the package to my room. Check out the UPS website (If you use them) to figure out how many days in advance to send your package.

I had the following on the outside my package
Guest Name
Resort Address
Hold for arrival on _________
Reservation number

I also put some stickers on my package so it stood out as well :)

Has anyone ever shipped a box for themselves to SOG? Just wondering if not being Disney they'd have a different policy or track record about receiving for a guest.

I shipped our box down on 4-11 and it arrived on 4-14 via UPS Ground. $10 for 15 pounds. I did not ship water or soda as we have a grocery stop scheduled---but shipped snacks and some odd stuff. I was told by ASMo to put name/address/date of arrival and confirmation number on the box.

I kept my receipt and checked the tracking number online and it arrived safe and sound and is waiting for me TODAY!! YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!! We're on our way!

You should call your hotel first---some places charge a handling fee for the box. ASMo does not.

See ya all in 10 days!!! I'll be back with a full report!

There are several other ways to get snacks and water to your room. There is an online delivery service called www.wegoshop.com that many DVC people use. They deliver right to your door. The delivery cost for an order under $100 is $15. Sounds about the same as FedEx to me. Everyone who has used their service seems to just love it.

If you are taking a limo service from the airport, many will stop for a 30 minute grocery break as well. That way you can shop for you want yourself. Take a look at the DVC board for more ideas.

I just think shipping a box seems like a lot of hassle for everyone involved. Epecially if there are other alternatives.

We have never shipped anything down there......
But....just to give you another idea / option.......
What we do is.....

Since we usually only need one suitcase each going down...but we do make quite a few purchases.....
some purchases (breakables) we ship home (they remove the tax since it is going out of state, so the shipping sometimes works out cheaper)

But a lot of things we carry home in our suitcases.

So.....we will take an empty suitcase and fill it with our snacks, etc going down....then use this suitcase for our souvenirs coming home.
You can fit a lot of cereal, pop tarts, soap, even toilet paper in a small suitcase!! Then you aren't paying that extra $10 - 15 to ship it down.!

Yeah, I was thinking about this after I posted...and I think I might do it this way! It makes sense. :)

i'm staying at the poly and got my box today, inside i filled it w/styrofoam cooler,(instead of refrig.) and inside the cooler, styrofoam plates, styrofoam bowls, cheap plastic knives, forks, extra band-aids,a little first aid pack from wal-mart,wet naps, extra plastic bags for wet clothes, and a plastic ziplock full of coffee, tea, sugar packets, salt & pepper, jar of pb&j,napkins and cheap dishrags i bought at $ store, moleskin, bug and sunscreen lotion, and a travel coffee maker.I think i'm gonna throw in some cheap (lite) flip-flops for the pool. We hope to send all for just a couple bucks.I called the poly got the direct address and they said fine, send it 2 express day it's cheaper and put arrival date, and our name. we also did this at ak and no problem

Does anyone know if you can fed ex or ups little bottles of wine or beerin the packages you send ahead.
Thanks!!! :)

The reason I shipped a box before hand is because I didn't want to lug yet another piece of luggage with me. We were going for 9 days and we had 7 bags as it was.

Shipping the box was no big deal. I live 1/2 mile from UPS and it cost me $10. What I did was pack an empty duffle bag in our luggage so that was for souvenirs and any leftover snacks that I didn't want to throw away that we didn't use from the box. I would have had to tip the limo driver and the bell captain for the box anyway (it was delivered to the room when we weren't there). So that makes the cost even cheaper. I didn't want to lug 15 pounds and that's why I did it---plus I could pack as much as I wanted and whatever I wanted in that box without security going through it.

The boxes are kept at the bellhop area so when you check in, make sure you request your box at that time. I had forgotten until I got up to the room.

It really is a convenient way to take items with you. I'm allergic to a lot of different foods--so I packed my own soy milk and glad I did. It was $4.99 a carton at ASMo. I also packed my own snacks to take to the park with me instead of giving them $4 for a pretzel, I had my snack bags of almonds.

I probably wouldn't have done it if it wasn't for the special foods I had to take for myself. It's an individual thing :)

I read on the Dis recently that some airlines do not allow bottled water in checked luggage. Does anyone have any additional info on that? We're not sure what to do this trip since we're only going for 5 days, but my kids are small and we eat mostly organic, hard to locate stuff, and we drink lots of water, esp. preggo me.

In December, when we were at WDW for 12 days we sent a box and ordered from wegoshop. Both worked superbly, though our box was $30 to send. Since our time is brief I am not sure I want to wait for wegoshop. *sigh* Got a few weeks to think about it, I guess.

There should be a list on the airlines site about what is allowed and not allowed. If it's not listed there, I'd email anyway just to be sure.

Out of my 7 bags, 3 were searched when coming back from Orlando to Pittsburgh. One had those plastic robots from Innoventions at Epcot and my hubby said when he was packing them----guaranteed this bag will get searched. And it did.

I took some decent organic bars with us---don't have the name in front of me..but they were like rice krispy treats...chocolate. They were great and hit the spot. If you want I can get you the name.
