Coming from Maryland (steamed crab capital of the world!!!) YES!!!! you can ship food.
It is VERY VERY common around here. We ship steamed crabs out to friends all the time (and so do hundreds and hundreds of other locals)
Here's what we all do.
We order a bushel of crabs...have them steamed...pack them well in dry ice...take them directly to BWI airport and they ship them via airmail same day all over the country. Our friends in Colorado love us for this.
My mom lives on the coast of Maine and she ships us down live lobsters the same way (right off the boat).
Now, all the other posters are correct... you need to be VERY careful of food borne illness here. You have no clue how long those turkey legs have been sitting around. Unless you could buy one, immediatly put it on dry ice and get it shipped out. I wouldn't chance it. Does your friend have a Whole Foods near them? Sometimes some Whole Foods sell smoked turkey legs!
