I need to transport a car from Nevada to West Virginia. Has anyone done this? Can you give me an idea what it might cost? I'm asking because I did an online search and all of the sites need personal information and will contact me. I did that the other day when I was inquiring about shipping some of my dad's possessions to me and I got about 5 million calls in about 2 hours from people wanting to handle the move. I'm NOT going through that again.

Also, I've heard that you have to be really careful when you're doing this because there are lots of people in that industry who take advantage of people. If anyone could share their experiences or offer advice I'm all ears (I mean eyes).

Suggestion: call your nearest military base and ask for the TMO office, this is the office that is responsible for shipping the soldiers stuff around the world. Just ask them if they can recommend a good auto shipping firm, they should not get to personal as this is peak season for movement and they will be getting 100's of calls a day asking about this type of stuff. Good luck!

Tom - that won't work, as the military (and the USG, in general) cannot make endorsements/recommendations.

For OP, you can Google "Auto Transport" and get a number of carriers with a web presence.

I would imagine the shipping costs to run about $750 (though I could be wrong).

I paid $600 back in 2007 to ship my Suburban from Montana to Florida.

They came to my home, loaded my vehicle on a car hauler (I gave them half down), then I gave them the other half on delivery.

I preferred going through a booking service because I figured that kept out the riff raff that might want to steal my car. LOL

Dependable Auto Shippers or DAS. I just used them to transport my Camry from NJ to WA in April. I think it costs about $1400, with increments of $300 if you want to be top on the carrier, another $300 if you want to be in an enclosed carrier.

I was getting moving quotes from United, Allied, etc. and they all recommended them.

They charged my credit card and provided tracking information for the entire trip. I could see map-wise where it was every day.

That is not true at all, the military is only allowed to ship one car on orders, so they can provide a list of firms that they work with as many people have more than one car. Are you with the military? do you have first hand knowledge? or are you simply relaying misinformation? or rumor?? I ask because I have been moving around the world with the US army for 25 years. I am getting ready to move to Beijing, and my local TMO office was very agreeable in providing a list of companies that will ship my stuff to China. No, this is not a military move, but the person who answered the phone, could have cared less.

I researched this a few years ago and found a great company. I had bought DS21 his dream car and had it shipped in from Indianapolis to GA. It costed $850 and was here in a matter of days. I also paid 1/2 down and 1/2 when it was delivered.

I already Googled and like I said in my OP, I can't find a website that will give me a ballpark estimate, they all want to get my e-mail or phone number. When I requested moving info on Monday I got no less than 15 calls in 2 hours plus a ton of e-mails. I don't want to deal with that again. Thanks for the input though.
