Sure, you can ship smaller items along with larger items. We shipped a variety of items, both large and small.
If you wait until the next day however, to ship the items from your resort, I'm pretty sure you won't get a refund on your tax. You have to purchase the items directly from the store, (and this goes for any store down there in WDW) and have them shipped home by the store, to bypass the tax. There are however a few shops in DTD that you can also get the 10% with your DC card, so that is an added savings!
