Does anyone have any experience with shingles? Yourself or someone you know? I was diagnosed with it today, not exactly the best thing to hear 1 month after back fusion surgery. For about 5-6 days, I had pain in the crease where the torso meets the thigh. I didn't think anything of it, figuring it was referred pain from the surgery, which is quite common. Finally last night I decided to look at it, and freaked out! With all the news recently about MRSA, that was what immediately came to my mind.
Went to see my PCP, and as I said, it's shingles. If you're not familiar with it, it's basically "adult chicken pox". You only get it if you've had chicken pox before (I had it as a baby), and it's only contagious upon direct contact - not through sneezing, coughing, or the like. If you come in contact with it, and you've had chicken pox or had the vaccine, you're ok. If you haven't had chicken pox, or been vaccinated, then you'll get chicken pox.
Fortunately, my rash isn't in an exposed area, where people can easily brush against it. It's also fairly small and localized, so hopefully it won't be too bad.
I'm ready to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly about this, so please tell me everything and anything you know.
Thank you!
