OK so my best friend's family and I are meeting up for MNSSHP on Sept 30th. My friend's kids are dressing as Wendy, John, and Michael (her baby girl will pretend to be a baby boy for a night LOL), my son is dressing as Peter Pan, and all 4 adults are dressing as pirates. My 2 year old daughter is SUPPOSED to dress as Tinkerbell, and I bought her tink costume on Ebay for $20.

When it came in the mail I put it on her and she was fine with it.

Well then a couple weeks later we finished my son's Peter Pan costume so I wanted to get a picture of them together in their costumes. My son LOVES his costume and wants to wear it every day. But when I got my daughter's costume out she FREAKED out! Started crying a river. I put it on her to show her that it doesn't hurt and it's just clothes and its nothing to cry over. But she screamed and screamed until I took it off. I have attempted 2 more times since then to just SHOW her the costume and she immediately freaks out. She's completely petrified of it!

So does anyone have any ideas? Maybe she is afraid of the crinkly feeling material or something? I have looked all over for another green fairy costume that is softer and less frilly and I have had no luck. Does anyone know if Tinkerbell's Treasures (I think that's what its called) sells anything that could pass as a Tink costume for a night? ACK!

if you could live without a miniature tinkerbell i have a suggestion-get her a puppy costume and sew a little hat on the top-she can be "nana". now, smile nice and suck up to one of your male "pirates" to dress up as tinkerbell :teeth: we saw a family of 4 where the daughter and son were cinderella and the prince, mom and DAD were the ugly stepsister (dad had a mustache which made it all the better). if none of the men folk are "manly" enough for the job-get a small plastic jar and put a glow stick in it, surround the glow stick with some gauzy fabric in it-one of the pirates can carry it around and brag "i've captured me a tink".

let us know how this works out.

Do you know another child around her age and size? Maybe you can ask that child to try it on in front of your DD? When she sees the other child wearing it, she may see that it's ok and, if she's anything like my kids at that age, she might get "possessive" about HER costume and want it back.

I love the ideas barkley gave! The Nana and Tonkerbell in a jar ideas are really cute!

Great idea!!!

The puppy would be cute but I'm worried it would be too hot in September. Tinkerbell in a jar is hilarious. Maybe I'll catch a firefly LOL.

If you want her to go as Nana, she could just wear a white t-shirt and white shorts or capris. Then you could make a cotton ball tail and make her a headband. That shouldn't be too hot.

How about buying a tink doll or small plastic figure so she can see Tink in her dress? We had a similar situation with a Minnie dress but when we bought DD a Minnie Mouse stuffed animal she wanted to wear her dress too.....can't hurt.

If she isn't comfortable with the dress, how about letting her wear a Tinkerbelle t-shirt instead?

I would suggest a tink video, or toy to get her interested. Also, I would dress up a doll or something, but not come anywhere NEAR her with the costume so you dont freak her out. Leave it on a hanger somewhere so she can always see it so she gets use to it. Buy some glitter spray for her hair or body and tell her it is pixie dust from tink. Hope this works out for you!

Our Big Lots had Tinkerbell costumes for 15.00 I believe they looked fun with a 3pc skirt, top & wings maybe shoes too, I really can’t remember, but pretty uncomplicated.

Best of Luck, What a Fun time you all will have!

This might be a stretch, and perhaps you've thought of it...but did you carefully check the inside of the costume to see if there is something making her itch, or hurt (ie. an unseen pin or similar)? Most likely she would've shown some discomfort the first time she tried it on, but you didn't mention that. Good luck...you've been given some other great ideas! :flower:

Maybe can you have her favorite teddy model it for her? Or do a fashion show and try on lots of other things, then add this one at the end and see if she still doesn't like it? She looks little. Can she tell you why she didn't like it? Watching the movie sounds like a good idea too. If all else fails, can you make her a wee pirate?! :rotfl:

let it go for now...2 yr olds are a funny lot. They like something one minute and the next are in tears! Then a few days later, they can't get enough again.

Try not to push it as that will (or seems to) make it worse!!! Let it go for now and see what happens in a couple of days. :flower: :flower:

My dd at 2, I remember was a Frog, and at first, she didn't want anything to do with the costume..something of which she picked out...So, we had a "Crazy Silly Funny Day" a few weeks before Halloween, and all of us dressed silly, hubby wore a clown costume and i was a butterfly..we played games, and sang songs, ate silly foods, and after a few min. of seeing us have lots of fun, she wanted to join in as well. Then she didn't want to take the costume off. :rolleyes1

If its scratchy - try putting a light shirt under it.

Try leaving the costume out so that she has access to it. Perhaps if she can check it out when your not looking, she will realize it is pretty cool

good luck

I've never had a problem with that (yet!), so I don't have any words of advice for you on that. My daughter was Tink last year at 15 months. Her Tink costume was shortsleeve. I put a long sleeve white turtleneck underneath it because it felt really strange.

If you are set on having a Tinkerbell in your group, perhaps YOU could go as Tink. Disneydirect is offering a Tinkerbell costume for adults. It's not cheap and I know I wouldn't be caught dead in it -- buy I'm also nowhere near a "pixie" size. Do they have plus-size pixies???? ;)

Hey Laura,

Didn't know you posted over here(ITs Melissa also Zoesmama on SK). :)

I think she will become accustomed to it. Just keeping trying and get some pictures since you are so great at taking pics. :)

So cool that you have the costumes all planned out. It will be soooo cute. I so wish I could meet up with you even though we didnt get to know each other that well over the past couple years on SK, but I dunno when I'll get season pass or AP's or what not after our move. We will be strapped to just get 2-3 days When we get there and go the week of the 5th with my brother and dad and step mom. Hey I see on your planning November too maybe then if you aren't as busy and packed full. :rotfl: Like that is possible going to Disney. :teeth:
