need updated info..all threads about hese are old..looking to stay in oct..need some advice on where to book..these are our choices:
sheratan vistana
marriots cypress harbour
celebrity resorts
parkway int
tiki village
sabal palms

any info on any of these is appreciated. read somewhere that vistana had roaches??:scared1: (4 adults/2 toddlers)

Of those choices I'd recommend Cypress Harbour hands-down over all of the others. I'm not familar with all of these resorts, and I think that they're all nice, but of those I've either stayed at or visited Cypress Harbour is the only one that I'd jump at if available. Lot's of amenities, childrens' activities, great pool areas, superior villa accommodations and a great resort atmosphere.

Hi Dana,
I'm only familiar with Vistana (the main resort on SR 535, not the Villages on International Drive). I have heard very good things about the marriots though.

I'm an owner at Vistana and have stayed there every year since 1994. Are you renting or exchanging a week through RCI or II ?
There are many pretty current threads (last 30 days) on Vistana and I'll include them here....however, if anything else specific pops into your mind, please feel free to ask me :

I agree with Marriott Cypress Harbour...no surprises there, I believe all of the rooms are renovated, etc. I read too much about Vistana being so different depending upon the section that I like to go where I know it's great!

Yes...and that's why I was trying to find out whether the OP is renting directly or exchanging. If you rent directly through the resort or a Travel Agent, you can be guaranteed to be placed in the new sections. As an exchanger....or winner of an auction.....there are no guarantees. So there are ways you can assure you will get the new units. And the resort, overall, is beautiful with lots of activities. Just wanted to mention that.

we are going as guests who belong to interval. this is one of their getaways. so i dont know how it works. does that mean we gat a nice room or older one? shes a gold member?

Hi Dana ~
As an exchanger, it's up in the air. I have heard that Interval International exchangers get the newer units much more than RCI exchangers though. I believe, on the Interval site, only the new sections are listed ? I am not a member of II so I cannot check. Hopefully a II member will see this and be able to check for you. But i do recall a good number of II exchangers getting into the newest sections---the Cascades at Vistana.

as a southern state - the most southern - it generally doesn't have a cold enough winter to kill the bugs - like your northern states.

so most places have those big roaches - they don't like inside like they do up north - but outside. this makes them just about impossible to kill.

if you don't want them - then don't leave your outside door open. each and every time you leave make sure the door closes. and watch when the door is open.

these things generally come in through the door. I don't think Vistana has any holds that allow entry.

that say I agreed Marriott's Cypress Harbour - a very nice resort. it is closer to SeaWorld than WDW though.

In 13 years of vacations (yearly) at Vistana, I have not seen even one single roach in our room. A few ants from time to time, but that's it. I would think if roaches were a problem at Vistana, I would have seen them one of those 13 stays.......

well thats good to hear..dont mind if their outside but inside FREAKS me out!!!especially if their that big..what is the difference between the 2 resorts ? one is villages and one is resorts?.

I'm not as familiar with the Villages, but they are newer. No chance of getting placed in an older section. They have less pools (I think 2 ? vs 7 at the main resort), they seem to have less activities going on.....I don't believe the Villages has any table service restaurants. Vistana has two table service restaurants in addition to a Pizza Hut and poolside snack stand. All provide room service right to your villa. Not sure if the Villages has room service ? Maybe someone who has stayed there can comment ?

The main resort is closer to WDW, while the Villages is closer to Sea World/Universal.

Hope this helps.

it does..dont care about the activities but having the places to eat is a bonus..ill go to villages website and see if they offer the same.thanks.

I just came back from staying at Vistana Resort and had the best offsite visit ever in Orlando. I used to live in WPB FL and have stayed in various on and offsite locations and had no problem with this resort. We asked for a room with an elevator (which will put you in either the Lakes or the Cascades) if you have kids stay in the Cascades if you want to have more quiet times stay in the Lakes. The timeshare people give you the usual sell push when you check in but we informed them we were not interested and they left us alone all week. The room was VERY clean and we had 4 adults and a child of 12 and had a great time there....

thanks for the reply..was your room "new"?

Dana,
I'll answer for cajunsrus. If they had an elevator building, then "yes", they were either in the Lakes or Cascades which are the newest sections.

We love the Vistana. We love the pool, the childrens programs, the extra space, how close to WDW it is, the rate and we have never seen an ant, a bug or roach. I would go back in a minute...please.
