I was waiting in the customer service line at walmart this morning and the lady in front of me was returning a dead plant. Yes, you read that correctly. It was a potted palm that was completely brown and wilted. And she returned it for her money back.

I wouldn't write her off as pulling a fast one.

When I lived in Florida, many places allowed you to return plants (up to a year, but t may have depended on the plant). Just like anything else, you can get a dud.

I just don't find it all that surprising.

Did she try to return a dead parrot, as well? ;)

The Lowe's & the Home Depot in our area will return dead plants within a certain amount of time. Don't think our Wal-Mart has that policy, but I don't shop for plants there very often. :confused3

:rotfl2:I can't keep a plant alive. It's a wonder my DD is ok .

I have often thought of the Home Depot guarantee, I could have the plants, kill them and get them replaced. It just seems wrong to me so I have reconciled to a life without house plants.

She might have thought that WalMart had the same guarantee. :lmao:

Our pets heads are falling off!

lol Op thanks for the laugh, I visualized someone staning in line with a dead plant trying to return it and I cant stop laughing!!!! lol I love it!!! Id have laughed in line. hahahahaha:lmao:

I returned a dead tree to Lowes two summers ago. I watered it, fed it, planted it properly and it died. The tag said guaranteed for a year so I returned it. They had no problem giving me my money back.

Kmart has that return policy too, up to a year... On all their plants. (or they used to). You could count on at least one cart full of bushes every time you needed to stand in the customer service line.

Anyone who has worked in retail can tell you, people return the weirdest things. DH is in management with a large Bed and Bath chain that also owns Baby stores. He comes home and tells me some of the most outrageous stories about things customers return (or try to).

I wouldn't have tried to return it, but that definitely could have been me holding a dead plant.. I got the "black thumb" of the family.. I can kill the flowers in wallpaper..:sad2:

I bought a cactus plant once - 'cause the guy told me they need little to no care at all.. I killed that too..

Now I won't even buy a flowered blouse..:guilty:

yep heres me too, ive even killed bamboos!!!! (and yeah cactus too!)

:confused3 You mean they actually let her return it? Oh brother.

Our Walmart has a 1 year guarantee all of their plants..all you have to do is bring it back and provide the receipt..I have done that , but only on bushes planted outdoors that didn't live the expected year!

, at least I know I can scratch flowered shirt off the Christmas list. Way OT, did you get your EggNog?

I think Walmart takes back anything, especially if you have your receipt. Lol!!! My grandfather returned a case of soda because he said the soda tasted funny. I guess he had to drink 19 cans to realize that. :confused3 They returned his money, didn't even hesitate. The things my grandparents return crack me up. Ugh! That's what I have to look forward to when I get old.

I know one thing that you can not return to Wal-Mart or any store for that matter, that I know of. Gun Ammo. All the Wal-Marts around here, there is a nice sign displayed stating that all ammo sales are final. No return, No exchange.
