Ok, now what every parent of a CP CM wants so know........

What kind of a discount will she get on park tickets and/or resorts?

I'd like to visit her while she's there.

She leaves 1/9/06!! She was so excited when she got her envelope in the mail yesterday she screamed. She's in merchandising.

Thanks

My DD got accepted too! We are all very excited! :flower:

She will be arriving Feb 1st, working as a vacation planner. The first vacation I would like her to plan is MINE!! LOL We think she will be selling tickets when she gets there, but I guess we will find out for sure in time.

I am wanting to go down there several times while she is working, so I was hoping there would be more than 10% off of the tickets (with the hotel rates more discounted, I am not complaining though!), so I am wondering if I should just get an annual pass and forget about the CP discount.... Any thoughts?

Also, is there a limit on how many times she can get discounted hotel rooms and tickets? I am honestly wanting to go around 4 or 5 times (she is in the advantage program, so she will be there until Aug. 18th, and will also be turning 21 while there), but I don't want to wear out our welcome!

Thanks for any information (and that already given) on the family discounts!

My daughter did Spring Advantage '05 ~ January to August. We had already planned a December family trip for Christmas, so I bought an AP then (knowing I would make good use of it!). I drove down with my daughter the end of January, stayed for 4 days & used the AP. Visited for another 4 days in April, a week in May and then another week the end of July (flew down & drove home with her. I definitely got my money's worth out of that AP ~ although I'm really trying to get another little trip in before my AP expires in Dec!! She loved having me visit -- and I loved riding her boat while she worked and meeting all her friends -- so don't worry about going "too often". She was usually able to take a day off while I was there and I enjoyed doing the parks on my own some days.

The resort discounts were great ~ 50% off (she stayed with me). In January I used my AP to get $104 AKL savannah view. (I sure miss the "old" way of getting AP room rates :sad1: I don't believe there was any limit to how many times she could book a resort at her discount ~ the earlier, the better to get the best discount (50, 40 or 25%) and her first choice of resort.

Good luck to your daughter ~ she'll have a great time :)

Thank you so much for the great info! I plan on visiting about as much as you did! So, it does sound like I should go ahead and get an AP before she gets there. Also, if they are going to go up on rates, they usually do it in January so I am thinking I need to act before the end of the year. I am hoping they won't go up too much after the way they changed the MYW tickets this past year.

How did you get $104 for the AKL? :earseek: That sounds great!! Was it her resort discount as well as an AP discount? I would love to stay there. I am going to try to stay at different resorts each time, so I can up my list of WDW resorts I have stayed at! :teeth: I may have to repeat a stay at the BW though, as it was my youngest DD's favorite!

We will be driving her down there in two cars and leaving hers there as well. At least we don't need to pack as much stuff for that as we did for college. No need for a fridge, microwave and that sort of stuff!

I'm sure I should be asking other questions, but I don't know what they are yet! So, if you think of other stuff I should know.... please just throw it out there!! Thanks!! :sunny:

CMs also get about a 10% discount on an AP voucher, which, aside from DVC membership or AP renewal, is just about the only way to get a discount on an AP.

Thank you so much for letting me know that! I really didn't think they would be able to get a discount on an AP, so that is great news. :cool1: I will wait until she gets there for tickets then. I know she needs to be there for around 3 days before she qualifies for the discount, so I guess there will be no touring before or after her move in date! Oh well!

I really wanted to take my Mom with me to see her a week or two after she starts, do you think that would be enough time to get a discount on the hotels? My Mom hasn't been to Disney, and is very excited to be there, so I wanted us to stay at a deluxe level resort for a week. That being the case, I was really hoping for a 50% discount. Do you think I should pull back on my plans and put off the trip for a while longer, or do you think that is possible with her being there just a short amount of time?

Thank you!!

Hey, Horizons16...was your mail carrier slacking on the job again today, or has your letter arrived yet? Let us know when you find out. :sunny:

It might be difficult for her to get the 50% discount with such short notice ~ all depends upon how full the resorts are and how many rooms are available for the CM discount. To get the 50% the CM is supposed to be staying in the room also ~ room discounts also can be 40% or 25%.
Your daughter will get a user name and a password and can then check on rooms on the web-site. The further ahead she books, the more choice she (you) will have.

We just drove my daughter's car down and I flew home. All she needed fit into her car and then we bought a bit after she arrived & saw what her roommates had and what they still "needed". For instance, she didn't need a tv ~ 3 of the other girls had one. There is a new Super Target and a Wal-Mart close by the apartment complexes -
My daughter was SO glad that she had her car there. It was much easier to get back and forth to work, not to mention having it for her free time.

In case you've wondered about it, I thought the security at the apartments was very good. They check ID on the way in and, after a certain time at night (maybe 1?), only residents are allowed in the gate.

Oh, and that rate at the AKL ~~ that was "just" an AP rate. I'd booked 'standard' view and was up-graded to 'savannah' before I'd even checked in :)
This will be a great opportunity for you to try some new resorts. We also like the BWI ~ have stayed there quite a few times. For our May trip we booked water-view at the YC (yes, for 50% off!). Had a fabulous room and an absolutely wonderful stay :)

Have fun planning your trips! ::MickeyMo
