Here are a few pictures I would like to post.
The first is of my friend and her sons.
This was taken recently and she was so proud of her oldest. I just look at her and then when I see myself in the mirror I know that death does not wear a sign. There is not some big banner over her head notating her shortened life and the only thing that separates her from me is God's plan. There are things we can do to help increase our chances of a longer life and I have not done them all. I don't smoke and I don;t drink and that helps but the weight and lack of consistent exercise is about to meet it's maker so I might not have to sooner than later.
Here are some awesome pics from yesterday! I bet there were over 300 people that showed up. Amazing. The line of supporters stretched for over 1/2 a mile and the opponents never showed but in truth, it would not have mattered if they had. This brought our community together and as one of Carsyn's friends said, "I didn't think this town cared for anything that wasn't about farming!"
Amazing signs from creative people. One said. "There is a reason Dorothy left Kansas!" (I know all Kansas people are not bigots...but it was a riot!)
Carsyn & Baylor
Carsyn left her signs on her car during the play and someone put a flower on it for her.
Part of the line of the peaceful gathering. There were all types of faiths, people who were atheists, gay's, straights, and all ages.
Carsyn & I
People with artistic talent and nice writing skills compared to us!
The play was amazing and I don't think one person did not cry. It really just took a look at people impacted by his death from all viewpoints and the town of Laramie itself. I think it did not stereotype Laramie as a hate mongering town. It really showed how it is not so unique and what can start with name calling and derogatory comments we have all uttered as joking or even in anger, can lead to the next step for some if the combination of hate and ignorance is fueled by mob mentality, alcohol or any other combination of outside influences. If it comes to a school in your area or college, please see it. Great conversation starter with my kids. Baylor just could not get past the fact that two men with a pistol thought it was okay to beat someone who was the size of a child. His exact words were, "Did they think they would beat him straight?"
It was an emotional but powerful day and I was proud to be a member of this family yesterday. Best Valentines Day gift I could ever get from my kids is seeing that they understand the words, "unconditional love".
