Shawshank Redemption

Caught part of it last night on (where else?) TNT. I saw this movie for the first time earlier this year. I had always wanted to see the movie, so I had my dh rent it for me. One day, I happened to home by myself and I watched it. I was amazed at how well this movie was done! Excellent movie! I highly recommend it. As for awards, I think that Morgan Freeman was nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

This is also one of my favorite movies; right up there with One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Slap Shot. I too end up stopping to watch at least part of it every time I stumble upon it.

::yes:: I can't pull myself away from it. (It's on today at 5 PST on TNT...) Funny thing is, I own the DVD and never watch it, but if it's on TNT, I'll watch it every time!

LOL...I think that every time I see that movie.
Glad I'm not the only one. :p

OK, call me crazy, but I've been wanting to ask some Shawshank experts this question for a long time. When Morgan Freeman finds the box, what was actually inside? When I first rented this movie (at a hotel PPV), Tim Robbins' gun that was never found was in there. But I swear, after that, I haven't seen the gun in there (or maybe I just fall asleep before that part comes on;) ) Anyway, was the gun in it or not? Thanks.

I've never seen a version with the gun in there...that would ruin the movie for me. I think I've always seen money and directions to Mexico. I could be wrong...I can't believe that little detail is escaping me.

I think you're crazy. :) (you're welcome!)

I don't remember seeing that, and I did some net searching and didn't find any references to it. Sorry...

Great movie! I can almost recite it word for word! Remember when TNT was showing "Gone With The Wind" constantly in the early 90's?

One of my top 3 favorite movies of all time. Anytime it's on I need to watch the rest. It's such an excellent movie.

Personally, I dislike Tim Robbins' policital antics, however I can separate that with this movie because his character is so unique and you really pull for him the whole movie.

The end always leaves me with a tear.

I could have written THIS post word for word! Not a fan of Tim Robbins' politics, but he was fabulous in this movie. And I LOVE Morgan Freeman in ANYTHING.

I LOVE Shawshank...one of the movies that inspired me to go to film school....

As for the box...its money and a map to mexico...Andy left it there after he escaped from prison.

1994 was a GREAT year for movies! Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redempption, Pulp Fiction, Quiz Show, Ed Wood, Bullets over Broadway, Legends of the Fall, Hoop Dreams....and so many more...sigh..that was a GREAT year for movie lovers...

Shawshank is also one of my favorites. I don't believe there is any kind of a map in the box, though. Just an envelope with money and a note. There was no way Andy was risking getting found out by the authorities. He told Red where he was going while he was still in prison and sent him a blank postcard with where he crossed the border to give him a clue but there was no map and I don't think Andy ever even mentioned in writing where in mexico he ended up.

There is also no gun in the box. If you believe that Andy's version of what happened the night that started this whole thing (and you really have to by the end) then Andy threw his gun into the lake as he said he did. During his trial, the prosecutor told Andy that it was convenient that the gun was missing and Andy told the prosecutor that he thought it was decidedly inconvenient because that gun could have proven his innocence (or at least that he didn't shoot his wife and her lover with that gun).

DH watches this movie every time it is on tv. I think it's ok.

Great movie! I get sucked in every time it's on tv also. I will have to remember to put that anniversary edition DVD on my Christmas list this year!

I think I will re-read the book now. I've been meaning to for awhile... :scratchin

This was one of the movies my ex-h and i could actually watch and enjoy together. And yes I still get sucked into watching when it's on!

This is how I feel about the "Pirates of the Caribbean".
I just cant get enuf of it. I watch it every time its on and then watch it on dvd when its not on..........My kids get a laugh out of it , "Dads watchin Pirates again" . pirate:

I only watched this movie one time, it was entirely too emotional for me to get through a second time. But I agree its a great movie!

TNT is evil for showing every other week, but I always watch! (which is why they do it!) It is one of those great movies that never seems to get old! I watched that yesterday and then watched The Patriot (?) with Mel Gibson. I haven't seen that as many times as Shawshank, since it's newer and I don't own it, but I've already viewed it at least a dozen times!
TNT just knows what I like to watch. That is why they have on Law & Order back to back to back...etc on Mondays and Tuesdays--I watch it all the time!

Does anyone have the DVD? Sometimes they have alternate endings to movies. Maybe that's the one that I saw. I just remember thinking "He really did do it". And Jfulcer, you're right, I am crazy. But I also saw a gun in that box ;)
